As a community-based, not-for-profit credit union, 1st United is dedicated to supporting local schools with the 1st United For Schools fundraising program. Here’s how it works:
Open a new, qualifying 1st United account
They will donate $25 to a participating school of your choice
Plus, they will deposit $25 into a savings account for you, too!
If you don't see your school on the list, you can send a message to businessdevelopment@1stuscu.org to have it added!
Visit www.1stunitedcu.org/schools to learn more about the program.
Teen Envision A Different Future
Recently over fifty teens gathered at the Barbara Lee Center for a 2-day intensive “Aiming High - Teen Basic” workshop that challenged them to uncover the underlying assumptions and hidden beliefs that prevent them from “taking life to the next level.”
Participants concluded the workshop by visioning a different future for themselves and sharing that with their parent at the closing session. Here are some of the things teens had to say about it: “I just feel lighter,” “We have more in common than I thought,” “Its like I have a new family,” and “I think my life changed this weekend…for real.”
The workshop, sponsored in part by SLED, was brought to the campus by SLHS teacher and BSU advisor, Ms. Natasha Lewis-Jones. Having participated in the adult version of the workshop, Ms. Lewis-Jones knew that SLHS students would benefit from this transformative experience. Thank you Ms. Lewis-Jones for your tremendous dedication to our students!
