MAY EVENTS

Family Support Month
May 1st – 31st

Helps at raising awareness about the importance of family and to encourage supporting one another.

Mental Health Month

May 1st – 31st

Mental illnesses are real disorders with real treatments, but too few people receive optimal care. Families of people with serious mental illness live with a patchwork of care and support services and they fear for their loved one’s safety and wellbeing. There have been nearly 1 in 5 adults, or roughly 43 million Americans, with any diagnosable mental disorder within the past year.

National Prevention Week (substance abuse and mental health)

May 15th – 21st

National Prevention Week is an annual health observance dedicated to increasing public awareness of, and action around, mental and/or substance use disorders. The theme for 2016 is “Strong As One. Stronger Together.”

National Prevention Week is held each year during the third week of May, near the start of summer. Summer is a season filled with celebrations and recreational activities where substance use and abuse can happen.

APRIL HIGHLIGHTS

There were several wonderful events that took place in April in honor of Sexual Assault Awareness Month (SAAM).

WCC ATTENDS SAAM STATEWIDE KICK-OFF

On March 31st WCC attended the KASAP Sexual Assault Awareness Month Statewide Kick-Off in Frankfort.

On Thursday, April 21st, Kira and Reagan (WCC staff members) hosted a very cool event at Kendra Scott in Liberty Center where 20% of the sales benefited Women’s Crisis Center programs to support survivors of Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence in honor of SAAM. Those who attended were able to sip, shop and raise valuable funds for WCC.

WCC and many others took our message to the streets, sidewalks and parking lots to CHALK THE WALK on April 18
th for sexual assault awareness and prevention!

We had many businesses that supported WCC by paying their dollars to wear jeans for the day. A huge thank you to all of those who took part in Dollars for Denim Day on April 27th!  Every dollar counts!
