Empowerment Resources, Inc. celebrated the accomplishments of two local seniors at 12th Annual Journey Into Womanhood Awards Celebration. With a combined nine-year history in the program, Marha Rolle and Arden Ward received scholarships for their pursuit of higher education. In addition to the scholarship presentation, more than 180 people were in attendance to celebrate 28 young ladies who successfully completed the 2015-2016 Journey Into Womanhood program year. Awards were also issued to program participants for achievements in attendance and outstanding program participation.
The celebration featured a keynote panel discussion with female community leaders who shared their words of wisdom with the girls. Speakers included: Melanie Lawson, anchor and reporter for Channel 4, Sabeen Perwaiz, Executive Director of Florida Nonprofit Alliance and Executive Producer of TEDX Jacksonville, and Cassie Sadowitz, General Counsel for the Jacksonville Jaguars and CEO of Spysie Tech.
This year $1,500 was given in awards and scholarships. Over the past 11 years Empowerment Resources has awarded more than $18,000 to participants in the Journey Into Womanhood program. Event attendee Ale'ta Turner shared her thoughts on the event here.
