ILA Urges Members to Continue Opposing a Property Tax Freeze
As long as the Illinois General Assembly is in session, there remains a significant risk that legislation imposing a permanent property tax freeze might be approved. The latest version of tax freeze legislation is contained in House Bill 696, which passed the Illinois House and is currently in the Illinois Senate. In previous ILA E-Newsletters we have explained this proposal and how it would hurt Illinois public libraries. Please click here to find useful talking points.
We again urge our members to contact their local state senators and demand that they oppose a property tax freeze. The most effective means of contact at this point is to personally call your senator's Springfield office. Please click here to find their Springfield office numbers.
ILA has also made it even easier to express your opposition. Please click here to send a letter to your local senator.
With only two weeks left in the scheduled legislative session, we need your help now to send a strong message that a property tax freeze will cripple local public libraries.
