TriNet Volunteers Upgrade Garfield Garden
TriNet volunteers once again came out in force to help San Leandro students have a place to learn and to be inspired. On May 7, a group of over 30 TriNet employees spent the day "refreshing" the garden at Garfield Elementary School. The ongoing maintenance of the garden will be handled by a group of parent/grandparent volunteers, whose goal is to include every grade level in helping their garden grow! A HUGE thank you to TriNet for their continued examples of how businesses and community can work together to support our schools and students.
SLED Announces New Community Engagement Coordinator
The San Leandro Education Foundation is pleased to welcome a Kathy Neisse to the team as the Community Engagement Coordinator. The Community Engagement Coordinator is responsible for the development, implementation and coordination of the Foundation’s Community Engagement program including recruitment and coordination of classroom volunteers, special event volunteers and student volunteers.
Kathy is a San Leandro native and proud Pirate Alumni, as are both of her sons. She, along with her husband Jeff, began volunteering in San Leandro schools in 1998 at the then newly re-opened James Madison Elementary. They carried that on to John Muir and then San Leandro High. While at SLHS she was active in United Parents and the Boosters Club, continuing on with Boosters even after her youngest son graduated. She is currently on the board of the San Leandro Sports Foundation, having been a part of this group since its beginning. Away from school Kathy & Jeff have volunteered with Little League and Church programs.
Kathy recently retired after a 35-year career in banking, working here in San Leandro the last seven years. She took one full day off and then came on board with SLED. According to Kathy, "This new position is an extension of what I been doing forever! I am excited to be back working in our schools to ensure we have the volunteers available to support our students. I look forward to encouraging our community to step forward and share whatever they can with our schools!"
