CITY SELECTS PREFERRED DEVELOPER FOR KEMPER ARENA
Public Hearing and Tour on May 18

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 16th, 2016

Kansas City, Mo - The City of Kansas City, Mo. will present details of  the preferred redevelopment proposal for the Kemper Arena site at a public hearing on May 18th, 2016 at 7pm at Kemper Arena.  The public hearing will be held on the Kemper Arena floor. The City selected the Foutch Brothers proposal based on its new and dynamic proposed use for Kemper Arena, which is expected to spark widespread economic development in the West Bottoms and Downtown.

“We have a chance to redevelop Kemper Arena into a vibrant focal point in the West Bottoms that will help support the existing small businesses and encourage others to open shop and remove the $1 million dollar cost to taxpayers to maintain Kemper today,” said Councilman Scott Taylor, Chair of the Planning, Zoning, Economic Development Committee.

The event will start with a press conference at 6pm. Then the public will take a guided tour of the arena. The public hearing starts at 7pm. Parking is available in the North parking lot and the public should enter under the blue awning.

“I encourage all citizens that have an interest in the redevelopment and historic preservation of Kemper Arena to join us for the public tour and hearing on this proposed redevelopment plan,” said Councilman Taylor.

The City’s Selection Committee, comprised of city representatives and elected officials, conducted interviews and received additional requested information from both Foutch Brothers and Steven Brothers Sports Management Company.

The next step is to move forward to the negotiation phase with the Foutch Brothers proposal, which is one of two proposals submitted during the May 2015 nationwide Request for Proposals for the redevelopment of the Kemper Arena site.

The City’s selection process continues with rigorous financial vetting of the project and negotiation of the final sale.  Kemper Arena is located on approximately 10 acres of City-owned property in the West Bottoms area.

Elected officials, City staff and the preferred development team will attend the public hearing and tour of the facility.
