HUD’s Office of Affordable Housing Program (OAHP) is pleased to offer deliveries of its current training series, Homebuyer Development for Community Housing Development Organizations (CHDOs) and Organizational Development for CHDOs, at HUD Headquarters in Washington, DC in mid-June. More detailed information and registration links for each session are following with general information for both trainings.

Homebuyer Development for CHDOs

HUD’s Office of Affordable Housing Programs is pleased to offer a two-day intermediate level course on homebuyer development for CHDOs in the HOME Program. Homebuyer Development for CHDOs is a course primarily targeted to experienced CHDO representatives. The course is intended to assist existing CHDOs in improving their capacity to develop and successfully sell HOME-assisted for-sale housing. Core topics include the critical role of market assessment and sales planning, underwriting fundamentals including buyer underwriting, and the calculation and reconciliation of sales proceeds being returned as program income or retained as CHDO proceeds. The course also addresses the conversion of unsold units to rental, the role of lease purchase, and how a Participating Jurisdiction’s (PJ) recapture/resale policies can impact marketability.

Who Should Attend?

This is an intermediate level course, intended as a focused session on homebuyer development for CHDOs and is best suited for staff of established CHDOs or with varying levels of experience in for-sale housing. It is also suitable for non-profit organizations working with state or local PJs to achieve CHDO status and funding for homebuyer projects. PJ staff is welcome to register, but priority will be given to CHDO staff. PJ staff registration requests will not be confirmed until it is determined that space is available. Please note that submitting a registration request does not guarantee you a seat at the training. Due to limited space, registrations will be reviewed and approved prior to confirmation. You will receive a confirmation email if you are accepted into the training. Please do not make non-refundable travel arrangements until you receive a confirmation email from the Training Point of Contact.

Note to registrants about events held in HUD facilities: the Department of Homeland Security Real ID Phase 3b Enforcement Rule is in effect. This rule does not allow access to Federal buildings by visitors presenting driver’s licenses from states whose IDs are not in compliance, currently: Illinois, Minnesota, Missouri, New Mexico, and Washington. Visitors entering HUD Headquarters from these noncompliant states must present another form of identification, such as a Federal issued ID or passport upon entering the premises.
