Welcome to the May-June edition of the Rangelands NRM eNews, which is now coming to you on a bimonthly basis.

There's lots to report over the past two months, with the launch of the extended NAFI website, a cane toad management handbook for rangers, and stage two of the Pilbara Conservation Action Plan. There's also been quite a few workshops and meetings to share innovation and best practice for managing the natural resources of the WA rangelands.

Fire history map to help manage devastating wild fires
 

The extension of a fire history map across the entire rangelands of Western Australia, will provide up-to-date information to help manage the devastating fires that impact on lives, businesses, biodiversity and cultural heritage. [Read more]

Multiple partners have come together to enable the extension of a fire history map across he entire rangelands of Western Australia. [Read more]
 

Handbook to help rangers manage cane toad advance

The Cane Toad Management Handbook was launched this month, providing a comprehensive tool for rangers to manage the threat of cane toads as they advance through the Kimberley. [Read more]
 

Pilbara stakeholders unite in conservation planning

The next phase of the Pilbara Corridors’ Conservation Action Planning (CAP) process is now underway and will identify priorities and establish working groups to implement the actions.  [Read more]

 

Kimberley Pilbara Cattleman’s Association showcases innovation

Two innovation forums were run by the Kimberley Pilbara Cattleman's Association (KPCA) last month, to inform pastoralists of latest innovation and best practice for beef businesses in the Kimberley and Pilbara regions. [Read more]

Reflections tour provides benefits to land and enterprise

A three and a half day tour throughout the southern rangelands last month informed pastoralists of the types of land management work undertaken in their region and its benefit to land and enterprise.  [Read more]

 

 

Endangered Pilbara quolls spotting during weed control work

Motion sensor cameras set up along the Fortescue River in the Pilbara have been successful at detecting the presence of the threatened Northern Quoll. [Read more]

Upper Gascoyne pastoralists explore sieve filter structures

Land managers in the Upper Gascoyne recently met to learn about a variety of techniques for controlling erosion. [Read more]

 

 

Discussions for more effective feral cat management and control

Key stakeholders met in May to share knowledge and create synergies across organisations and boundaries for more effective feral cat management and control. [Read more]

AusPlots Field Method Training

25-28 July, Karratha and Millstream-Chichester National Park. Science on the Broome Coast - Kimberley Reefs

The next talk is Wednesday 29 June - 'Corals, canaries and cockroaches: A natural history of Kimberley Reefs'. Dr Mick O'Leary will present the first detailed analysis of the geomorphology, growth history and evolution of Kimberley reefs spanning the last 10,000 years.
