Waitsfield Elementary School Rocks!

May 19, 2016
Student crafted bowls awaiting scoops of ice cream. After this evening's concert, students will be directed to the library and a few other classrooms to pick up their bowls; ice cream will be served on the lawn outside the gym (weather permitting).

Dear Friends and Families,
We look forward to seeing you at this evening's concert (Kindergarten through 6th grade students will be performing) at 6 p.m. and ice cream social (approximately 6:30 p.m.).  We will be collecting donations (food as well as financial) for our local food shelf as returning something back to our community for all of the support it lends us.  Students will get to take home the bowl they made during our artist residency, licked clean of ice cream (and we'll have paper bowls so that everyone can enjoy a little scoop!).  In addition to student bowls, we have several collaborative bowls and donations from our artist resident Leslie Montalto that will be raffled off as well (all proceeds going to the local food shelf.) Weather permitting, ice cream will be served on the lawn outside the school gym; we're hoping to keep ice cream outside. Thank you!

Bowls to be raffled this evening; $1/ticket or $5/10 tickets.

The 4th Annual Bridge Street Arts Fair is this Saturday. Join us at the fair anytime between noon and 5. We'll have a bike parade from the school to Bridge Street, leaving Watisfield School at noon. It should be a terrific day!

Respectfully,     Kaiya Korb, Principal

Spring Socrates Cafe      A Socrates Cafe is an opportunity  for dialogue with other individuals about topics that really matter.  It is an opportunity to delve deeper into timeless and timely questions that  all human beings deal with in their lives.  A Socratic dialogue is  unique is that it encourages participants to join together to seek a deeper meaning of a question, a reading and/or a problem. Rather than being a debate or a discussion, a Socrates  Cafe  is a dialogue where participants are encouraged to listen to each other and to learn from one another. This form of discourse- and its focus on the search for knowledge- comes from Socrates,  who observed that "Wisdom  Begins in Wonder."
All of the Socrates Cafes at Harwood are facilitated by students who have been in Kathy Cadwell's philosophy classes.they are experienced in leading Socratic Dialogues. Everyone in the community is invited!
Please join us on Tuesday, May  24 from 6:30- 8:00 PM in the Harwood library as we discuss the question, "What does it mean to be an educated person?"
