Successful first project in Abu Dhabi
Kossmann.dejong has designed two exhibitions for the majestic Cultural Foundation Building for the annual Qasr Al Hosn Festival in Abu Dhabi. In one exhibition the visitor enters a mysterious black box containing a spatial installation of synchronised video projections, in which the stories behind five iconic historical photographs are brought to life. The other exhibition is designed like a labyrinthine journey of discovery, representing the most important city archives of Abu Dhabi.

Micropia most innovative museum
The jury of the European Museum of the Year Award (EMYA) has selected Micropia for the Kenneth Hudson Award, the prize for Europe’s most innovative museum. “This unique and original museum presents, in an elegant and engaging exhibition, the world of microbial life. Micropia lifts the notion of what a museum is to another level,” according to the jury. Additionally, the National Military Museum in Soesterberg acquired a special commendation from the EMYA jury.

Kossmann.dejong designs Parade Museum
This year will see the launch of a new experience at the travelling theatre festival ‘the Parade’: the Parade Museum. The Dutch Photo Museum will be the first to inhabit this temporary museum, and has invited Kossmann.dejong to design an ‘exhibition’ of Ed van der Elsken’s photo book Eye Love You. Visitors will be immersed in a compelling show of images that convey happiness, sadness, courage, battle, fights, and vitality.

'Canon of Dutch History', an enormous time machine
Last April the draft design for the ‘Canon of Dutch History’ was presented at the Holland Open Air Museum in Arnhem. Together with interactive designer IJsfontein and animation studio Redrum, Kossmann.dejong has designed the exhibition as if it is an enormous time machine. The ‘Canon of Dutch History’ will open in 2017 in the museum’s new entrance building, but Redrum has already created a video impression.

Dead giraffe calf in Micropia
An intriguing new exhibit called ‘Crucial cleaners’ has been added to Micropia. The display of a dead, suggestive animal had been considered prior to the opening of Micropia. A three day old giraffe, died a natural death in Artis Natura Magistra, has now become the eye-catcher to highlight the essential role of microbes in cleaning up nature.
