This year the Day of Pentecost falls on this Sunday, May 15th. It always comes fifty days after Easter and ten days after Jesus’ ascension. Pentecost marks the coming of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus’ followers who had devoted themselves to prayer together in Jerusalem.
The Holy Spirit came, according to Acts 2, like flames of fire – so red became the liturgical color for Pentecost and the Holy Spirit. Wear red to worship this week – and during the fellowship time following, see how many red foods we’ll be enjoying!
Fill the Yellow Poster
When you come to worship on Sunday, you will notice a big yellow poster board
and RED markers. Please take a minute and write what the Lord is stirring in you during these ten days of prayer.
Question of the Week
In worship last Sunday Pastor Lisa asked the question:
In your opinion, who in the congregation has the spiritual gift of wisdom?
Twenty-nine persons answered this question.
Three persons were mentioned most often.
Another three were also named more than once.
19 additional people were cited once.
A Note From Pastor Lisa!
10 DAYS OF PRAYER
What? Today we start joining our hearts and prayers as we ask God’s Holy Spirit to fill us as on the day of the first Pentecost. You should have received an email reminder already this morning. If all you can do is pray the congregational prayer, that is more than great! If you want to do more, the daily reminder will offer additional suggestions for that day. And, if you haven’t already, set an alarm to prompt you again at 8.16 pm.
Who? Everyone: old and young, singles and families, members and participants
When and Where? At 8: 16 pm (or whenever possible), pause wherever you are and whatever you are doing to pray for our congregation and where God is leading us. We will join our hearts and minds before the Lord at 20:16 pm each evening and lift up our ministry in 2016!
PS. If you know someone who is not online, please ask them to contact Amanda at 848-2909 to make arrangements for paper copies.
Why Now? May 5th is the Day of Ascension when Jesus ascended to heaven to reign as Lord of heaven and earth. The disciples were left in Jerusalem, according to Acts 1, and they devoted themselves to prayer that they would be empowered by Christ’s Spirit for the ministry ahead of them. They spent ten days in prayer…and on Pentecost, which we will celebrate on Sunday, May 15th, the Spirit did indeed come and rest upon each one in a mighty way.
May we devote ourselves as a congregation to becoming willing and ready to be filled to overflowing with Jesus’ Spirit and then sent out to renew the face of the whole earth!

Many thanks to Jeri O’Dell for keeping track of the numbers and for everyone who welcomed us into their homes! The gatherings have been great times to connect with Lisa and with each other!

General Conference 2016:
The Global Church Gathers
John Wesley, one of the founders of the United Methodist Church, taught that Christian conferencing is a mean of God’s grace in our lives. The United Methodist Church’s top legislative body will meet at the Oregon Convention Center, the largest convention center in the Pacific Northwest, on May 10-20, 2016.
General Conference meets once every four years and is the only body that speaks officially on behalf of The United Methodist Church. The conference can revise church law as well as adopt resolutions on current moral, social, public policy and economic issues. It also approves plans and budgets for church-wide programs.
Please hold in prayer the clergy and laity elected from their annual conferences as they discern the future of our denomination. You can follow the proceedings and daily news at www.umc.org/topics/general-conference-2016.
