Thanks for supporting
SPEECH & HEARING MONTH!

It's hard to believe that another Speech and Hearing Month has come to a close. We received a lot of positive feedback about our 2016 campaign, especially our new resources:

"These posters are wonderful — they look very professional. They are perfect!"

"I really like the new resources. We don't have time to produce these things ourselves, and everything SAC has developed lately has been great."

"I think the video project was a superb idea."

We were also delighted to see people sharing our posts and promoting our resources on social media:

KIDS' CONTEST

And don't forget: our annual Kids' Contest closes tomorrow, so send in your entries as soon as possible! We'll post the winning entries on www.maymonth.ca in June.
ON THE HILL

We always make an effort to meet with politicians on Parliament Hill during Speech and Hearing Month. This year, we advocated for one of the key communication health issues identified in our 2015 Vote Communication Health Campaign: a national seniors strategy.

SAC reached out to several MPs and members of the Standing Committee on Health to talk about the need for Canada to have a national seniors strategy in place by 2019. We emphasized that this strategy must provide timely, publicly-funded communication health services for seniors with communication, hearing, balance and swallowing disorders.

IN THE MEDIA

Every Speech and Hearing Month, we work to inform the public and other health-care professionals about the important work of communication health professionals. Here are a couple of highlights:
  • In addition, we assisted with an article about fall prevention and vestibular disorders in Good Times magazine. The piece includes interviews with relevant health professionals, including audiologist and SAC member Janine Verge, Aud(C).
REACHING OUT TO CHILDREN'S HOSPITALS
Once again, our partnership with children's hospitals and pediatric centres in Canada was a success! Speech-language pathologists, audiologists and communication health assistants handed out our materials to patients and their families all month long, helping us to increase awareness of communication disorders and the professions.

SOCIAL SHARING

SAC and the other members of the Pan-Canadian Alliance of speech-language pathology and audiology associations would like to extend a heartfelt thank-you to everyone who participated in our #maymonthstories social media campaign. We loved hearing your stories about the life-changing work S-LPs, audiologists and communication health assistants do!

If you haven't seen it yet, you can watch the campaign video here.
