  White Paper:
Parking Generation with Park+

Over the past five years, the parking team at Kimley-Horn has been utilizing Park+ to better understand parking needs in our users' communities. What we’ve learned is that one size does not fit all; and the traditional ways of estimating parking demand might not fit the needs of dynamic communities. This white paper explores that topic and how cities and universities should rethink their planning approaches.

  White Paper:
Advanced Data Analysis with LPR

In recent years, we’ve discussed the concept of using License Plate Recognition (LPR) for parking data collection. This white paper explores the combination of that data with ArcGIS to unveil a more robust set of parking data analytics including occupancy, duration, movement, permit usage, and origin-destination. What's New At Kimley-Horn?

Brett Wood’s Adventures in the Front Line of Parking

In March, Brett Wood of our Phoenix team served as a parking intern for the City of Las Vegas parking services group. As part of this four day internship, Brett served in multiple roles including administration, maintenance, collection, customer service, and enforcement. Working grueling 12 hour days (thanks Brandy Stanley!), Brett observed the ins and outs of the parking program firsthand. The number one takeaway? Brandy has developed a staff of dedicated individuals working as a cohesive team for the greater good of downtown Las Vegas. This has led to a customer service based group that goes above and beyond to serve clients and improve the community. You can learn more about Brett’s experience at his IPI presentation in May-including his joy in writing citations, the run-ins with the law, and how he almost set himself on fire!

In The Spotlight:

IPI: The Parking Professional

In the May issue of The Parking Professional, please keep an eye out for “Safety by Design” written by Chicago-based Khurshid Hoda. Incorporating security features in the design of a parking structure is one of the best examples of crime prevention through environmental design (CPTED). This approach deters criminals by making them feel trapped, out of place, exposed, and concerned that others inside and outside of the facility may be watching their activity. There are many design elements that enhance the CPTED approach.

National Parking Association (NPA) and
Parking Consultants Council (PCC)

Adam Cochran, P.E. is serving his second, two-year term as Secretary for the Parking Consultants Council (PCC). The NPA Parking Consultants Council (PCC), formed in 1972, is the prestigious, peer-reviewed group of vetted parking consultants with a substantial body of work experience and references within the parking industry. The Council is comprised of architects, engineers, and parking management consultants, who cultivate information sharing on standards, regulations and trends that impact parking construction, management and operations. The PCC develops best practices and technical educational manuals on parking industry topics.
