A message from the Board Chairman

May, 2016
Kick off for the 2016 Season
By Jeff Walla, Board Chair

As we kick off the 2016 season of programming we have a number of updates for our First Tee friends and supporters throughout New Hampshire.

We are pleased to welcome Leslie Heindl as our Office Manager.  Leslie has a tremendous level of experience in business most recently as the Executive Director of Cochecho Valley Humane Society in Dover, New Hampshire for three years.  She will be assuming many of the duties that had been assumed under our previous shared service arrangement with the New Hampshire Golf Association (NHGA).  We look forward to continuing our association with the NHGA as an allied golf organization in New Hampshire.

Our newsletters will also take on a different look and focus.  As our organization grows to other parts of the state our newsletter needs to serve as a communication tool for our participants, their parents, our sponsors and partners, our volunteers, board members and Advisory Council members.  Our newsletters will have new features such as:

  • Nine Healthy Habits – we will focus on one of the Nine Healthy Habits in each edition.  Our late March issue focused on “Play”.  This column will be written by PJ Strebel.  PJ is the Youth Program Director at Seacoast Sports Clubs.  We are pleased to have PJ join our editorial team.
  • Sponsor/Partner - We will also focus on one of our key sponsors or partners who have invested in our chapter to help bring our program to youth throughout the state.
  • Board member - We will also feature a board member in each issue.  Each board member brings unique talents to our board and is critical to our growth.
  • Volunteer – We could not survive without our volunteers and will feature one in each edition of our newsletter.
  • Program Location – Each of our program locations is unique.  We’ll feature one location in each issue and how they have introduced The First Tee program to youth in their area.
  • Advisory Council member – We are fortunate to have an Advisory Council serving in an advisory capacity to our board of directors.  We’ll introduce you to each member over the course of the season.
We are excited as we start of 2016 building off of the momentum we had in 2015.  Thank you to each one of you for your support of The First Tee of New Hampshire.  We always have need for volunteers and encourage you to contact Leslie at 603 964-3033 to see how you can become involved with us helping to change the lives of the youth of New Hampshire.

The Fabulous Find

During the month of May, The First Tee of New Hampshire was   selected as one of the nonprofits that will share from the proceeds of   sales at the Fabulous Find in Kittery, Maine. The Fabulous Find is a resale boutique that was founded in 2010 by several women who wanted to give back to their community.
The store sells donated clothing and home a
ccessories and then donates the profits to local nonprofits in the seacoast area.  It relies on the supporters of the organizations for donations of items for the month they are selected.   The Fabulous Find has donated over $500,000 to local charities and we are very excited to have been selected as a recipient group.

If you have items you wish to donate this month please bring them to 139 State Road in Kittery, Maine.

Steven Schnobrich from The First Tee of New Hampshire has been selected to attend the First Tee National Par-3 Championship held at The Kanawha Club in Richmond, VA June 21-26.

Schnobrich is one of 32 teen participants--16 boys and 16 girls--from the First Tee chapters across the country selected to play in the 36 hole individual stroke play competition. He will also represent the East Coast in an 18 hole Territory Cup event that will be played in a modified team base format.  Schnobrich, 16, is a junior at Exeter High School.  Active at his chapter for 7 years he assists in coaching and creating activities for all First Tee levels and serves as a mentor.  He also volunteers in the community.

When asked about the Par-3 Championship Steven said "I'm honored to be selected for this leadership opportunity."  Coach Jim Blalock, Lead Coach for the First Tee of New Hampshire added "Steven is a tremendous ambassador for The First Tee having fully embraced the life skills experience.  He quickly learned that the more he gives back, the more he gains; a testament to our unique youth development program."
