Ready, Set—Invite!
Very few people will come to the foot of the cross without someone holding their hand. It might be a parent, a trusted friend, a Sunday school teacher, an evangelist’s challenge—but in general, we are invited and led there by someone.
Likewise, very few people will attend a church on their own. Instead, a family member, coworker, fellow student or neighbor usually issues an invitation and often literally brings that person to church.
Why do we bring people—to the foot of the cross, or to the campus of the church? Because of love. Love for Jesus, love for others, a desire that “none shall perish.” And we’re smart enough to understand that for most people it’s a process...it may be a series of invitations that ultimately leads to someone meeting Jesus for themselves.
So as a church family, we want to make it as accessible and inviting as possible for people to enter into our community. Sunday mornings, weekday ministries, Love our Cities outreach days—there are lots of doors through which to come, and here are some “bringer” events on the horizon for us to do just that kind of inviting...

Stories from the Street: A Second Chance for Ray
I serve as a leader for the mobile laundry-shower ministry for our homeless neighbors called “Scent of Water.” A group of volunteers from EvFree and In the Vine Church provide these services twice a month in downtown Fullerton. Our homeless friends come to have their laundry done and get a warm shower. Our volunteers serve lunch and provide donated items and referrals to community resources to help our guests improve their lives.
The most important part of our ministry is getting to know each of our homeless friends individually. During the afternoon, we hang out together and have long conversations. We show them that they are loved and valued; we treat them with respect and dignity. Over time we develop real relationships with these friends.
A few months ago Ray came to our ministry for the first time. Ray is a likeable, easy-going guy and we got to know him quickly. Ray is a big rig truck driver with years of experience, but he was unemployed for over two years and his Class A license had expired. Ray was living in his RV and feeling pretty discouraged.
Ray’s dream was to renew his Class A license and have steady work as a truck driver. To do that, he would need to pass written exams and a driving exam. Ray couldn’t afford the testing fees or the cost to rent a truck for the exam. I told Ray I would try to help him achieve his goal, and I asked Jay Williams to help us find a solution...

Congregational Meeting
Sunday, June 12, 3:30pm, Worship Center
EvFree Family,
We are excited to begin the adventure of looking for our next senior pastor. To help keep you informed, we will have a congregational meeting on Sunday, June 12, at 3:30pm.
At this meeting you will:
- Get to meet two candidates from the congregation who are being proposed to serve on the pulpit committee with the elected elders. The committee’s role is to present a senior pastor candidate to the congregation. These candidates will also serve on the committee that does much of the pastoral search work. (Members will give a vote of affirmation for these two candidates during all services on Sunday, June 19.)
- Learn about the search process.
- Hear an update on our staff and get to know some of them.
One of our goals as elders is to improve our communication with you. Congregational meetings are a great way to keep everyone up to speed. We hope to see you there.
In His service,
Fred Ouderkerken

Women’s Summer Study—ALL IN
Wednesdays, June 1–29, 7:00–8:30pm, Commons
This summer, we are inviting the women of the church (and their neighbors, friends, coworkers) to go ALL IN with Jesus. For five nights in June, we'll explore what that looks like. No cost. No homework. No kidding. Register here (not because there is a cost, but so we can plan for you and welcome you with a name tag!).
