Windows 10 Automatic update:
Updated 2016/05/23

WINDOWS 10 AUTOMATIC UPGRADE:
This white paper is to advise customers of Microsoft’s push towards Windows 10 Operating System. Recently, Microsoft made a change from initiated upgrade to automatic upgrade to Windows 10. While both SCADAview32 and SCADAview CSX are both Windows 10 compatible, there are problems with 3rd party applications that are not compatible with Windows 10 and not caught in the Windows 10 compatibility test.

The automatic upgrade is now part of Windows Updates and can occur without operator presence set by the “Install updates automatically” schedule. Unfortunately, this can cause the computer to sit idle awaiting user interaction to complete the upgrade. During this time SCADAView, SCADADial, and SCADAWeb will not be operating.

To further complicate the automatic upgrade if you revert back to Windows 7 (by declining the user
agreement) some 3rd party software has already been affected. The effected software will need to
be updated to properly work again.

GET WINDOWS 10 POP-WINDOW:
Microsoft has changed the Get Windows 10 Pop-up window. You must select the “Click here to change upgrade schedule or cancel scheduled upgrade” as shown below to close the window. If you simply click the “X” in the upper right hand corner of the window to close, then you are authorizing the upgrade to Windows 10 the same as selecting OK. This change was sent by Windows Updates – recommended updates.

RECOMMENDED ACTION:
Since the “upgrade to Windows 10” is a recommended update, turn off recommended
updates.
1. Go to Windows Update>>Change settings
2. Uncheck “Give me recommended updates the same way I receive important
updates”
