One of the biggest tools that people must learn in order to maintain recovery is to become an authentic version of themselves.  The journey into recovery from addiction and/or mental health issues is one of learning who we truly are and who we want to be. Many people enter recovery with a great career path, but are spiritually empty and others have no sense of self in any part of their lives.  The notion of getting to know one self without the drugs/alcohol is a significant one.  Many people have no problem being social and connecting to people when under the influence, but what happens when the drugs are set aside?  What happens when someone is less anxious and/or depressed, how does one connect from that standpoint.? How do we share with the world the real version of ourselves?  Learning to be who we truly are is a life long journey.  Stepping into ourselves is something that takes time, courage and patience.  Being my authentic self means that I know what my values are, and being confident in those values and opinions. It's also about being self-aware, becoming more humble, and being able to take feedback from others.  This month,  take time to enjoy and embrace the journey of becoming more of who you are and who you are yet to be.  Share with us that beautiful spirit and essence of yours.  I will join you on that path.
