Hola

& Welcome to my Argentine Adventures: Round 2

Hi everyone! Sorry for the delay - turns out I have been going to too many boliches and having one too many fernet y colas to write a Hola from Hannah each week. Here's hoping they become a little more frequent :) I am in my 5th week here in Buenos Aires and absolutely loving it! The time has flown by, and I can't believe I only have a week left before searching for the warm(er) shores of the Galapagos Islands. As always, feel free to email me at hannahcooper1215@gmail.com to chat, give suggestions, or send internet hugs. Enjoy!

Besos,
Hannah

Know you need a ride at a certain time?

Lyft is here to help

Lyft has just announced that they are testing a "request a ride" feature. This feature enables you to schedule a car up to 24 hours in advance. Don't get too excited yet. This option is rolling out for employee testing in San Francisco now, so it might not make it to a street near you anytime soon. No word on how surge pricing will effect these rides, but you could potentially book your new years ride home and save some serious cash. Planning in advance may pay off.

Meanwhile in Argentina, cabs are king and Uber protests happen weekly - I have a feeling Lyft ride requests will stay far far away.

Fun Fact:

Buenos Aires is home to the widest avenue in the world - Avenida 9 de Julio! It has 16 lanes (including weird bus lanes in the middle) and can sometimes take two light rotations to get through.

My Run Down of the Best Food in BA

Hint: Burgers & Steaks included

Sometimes the food here can be a little tricky (tourist traps, not great quality, etc.), but there are some real gems. Let me share them with ya -

For all things burger... Burger Joint. You can get a delicious (and huge) burger, fries and a beer for $110 pesos aka about $8 USD. Burger Joint has about 7 different types of burgers ranging from the classic to Hawaiian, BBQ, Mexican, and beyond. You really can't go wrong. It's also in a great part of town so you can walk around after you're stuffed (burn calories and all of that).

For a parrilla that isn't going to break the bank... La Cabrera. But only at happy hour (aka before 8pm). They will kick you out at about 8:30pm, so make sure you leave yourself enough time. It's worth it though - believe me when I say this was the best steak I have ever had.

If you want a little something spicy.... Look to asian food. For some reason, Argentines don't like the spice. Hit up Sinae Asian Cantina (esp. the pork buns) or Fukuro Noodle Bar (that ramen doe) for a little extra spice in your life.

For empanadas and atmosphere... Check out La Cocina on Pueyrredón. This little hole in the wall is my go-to for quick empanadas and charming ambiance. You can't go wrong with pollo or carne picante.

If you're feeling French (or you want a little pan de chocolate)... Check out Cocu. I recommend the Salade Estivale and a pan de chocolate. You won't regret it!

To close, I will leave you with a recent ad from the Argentine government (and new president) that has been making the rounds on social media. It's about everything necessary to make an empanada (a beloved staple in BA) and the people involved in the process. The government is trying to instill a sense of togetherness - let's see if it'll work. First, wifi throughout the city, and now, empanadas.

Anyways, let me know what you think!

xoxo,
