Global Investigative Innovators

We're constantly inspired by the courage and innovation shown by our partners around the world. Here's Indonesia's Wahyu Dhyatmika telling of Molotov cocktails and muckraking during Tempo magazine's 45 years. In Brazil, former Gazeta do Povo's Mauri König tells how his team risked their safety to tie Paraguay's president to tobacco smuggling. In Hungary, journalists have fought for free expression by founding the investigative center Direkt36. And In Peru, pioneering OjoPúblico just launched a Data Journalism Guide for Spanish-speaking reporters.

Finding Expert Sources

Looking for sources? Finding experts is a great place to start for many stories. GIJN took a look at various guides to expert sources. After cutting those that are outdated, too specialized, or tools of the PR industry, we found six services with functioning, reliable databases worth using by journalists.

Asia Conference Highlights

Excitement is building for the 2nd Asian Investigative Journalism Conference in Sept. We've added new program highlights, which now include famed Boston Globe Spotlight Editor “Robbie” Robinson, ICIJ's Panama Papers Asia team, the Pulitzer-winning AP team that freed 1000 slaves, plus a powerhouse of top data trainers, panels for profs, networking sessions, and more.

GIJN's New Program Coordinators

Join us in welcoming two new colleagues to GIJN's staff. Mago Torres (photo) comes to us from Mexico City, where she coordinated the journalism program and was a scholar at the Universidad Iberoamericana. She is co-founder of Periodistas de a Pie and recently worked on ICIJ's Panama Papers project. Gertrude Nicole Friedman is a data and information architecture specialist based in Budapest, where she is also a fellow at Central European University looking at information management by NGOs.
