LGiU Technology and Transformation Update
Dear all,

Flooding: the long read

We've just published a long read on flooding, published by my colleague Andrew Walker. It's pretty amazing and specifically addresses the role of technology and open data in flood prevention and recovery. Well worth a look.

Do it for Democracy!

Wow - the 5th of May elections saw us and our partners Democracy Club deliver the first ever UK open data platform of ward level results. We still have a lot of lessons to learn and will be sharing the write up soon, but suffice to say there is a lot of work that still needs to be done to have transparent, open and accessible results.

If you have an MJ subscription - I suggest you check out our Chief Exec's recent column on some of the key lessons not just for transparency data but for all gov data.

Story sharing: Presenting information to councillors and commissioners:

Noel Hatch, from Lambeth, has recently asked for examples of people who are doing interesting things with presenting information through dashboards (or other ways)

As the Council moves to having to focus its resources much more on a more targeted set of priorities and needs, we are developing our capabilities in how our commissioners and service managers use data and insights to better understand the needs of our residents and demand on our services. This helps us  better target who to support and how to manage demand.

What other data and insights can help councillors – cabinet members and backbench councillors in their role? What insights do councillors have that can help us better commission and improve our local areas?

So if you have any insight on insight that you can share with Noel (and the rest of us), we're collecting stories here - this is a super short questionnaire with an opportunity to suggest a question in next month's update. I'll also share your responses in the Tech & Transformation group on the Knowledge Hub
