WATERBURY RESERVOIR BOAT ACCESS GREETER BEGINS MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND

Friends of Waterbury Reservoir (FWRes) is happy to announce that the new Boat Access Greeter will begin meeting boaters on Memorial Day weekend at the Blush Hill access in Waterbury.

Having a Boat Greeter available to educate boaters about best practices on the Waterbury Reservoir will help everyone enjoy our great resource, which is key to achieving our organization's mission," said FWRes President Laurie Smith. "We are very excited to have Zachary Johnston join our team as our first paid greeter, under the leadership of local Waterbury resident and volunteer, Chuck Kletecka. Zachary comes to us with education and experience in outdoor environmental education, and a very approachable and friendly demeanor that we think will be a really good fit for this job."

Zachary will serve an average of 8 hours per week at the Blush Hill and possibly the Waterbury Dam access areas from May to September.

The position is partly funded through a grant from the VT Dept of Environmental Conservation's Aquatic Invasive Species (AIS) program. Smith points out, however, that grant funding is not quite enough to meet the group's vision for the greeter program. FWRes, which recently achieved 501(c)3 non-profit status, is seeking contributions from individuals who care about the Reservoir.

"We are well on our way to fundraising all of the grant matching costs for this position, thanks to the enthusiastic support of the Reservoir Community. If substantial donations come our way, we may even be able to add some extra days to Zachary's time."
