La Asociación Estatal de Promotores/Trabajadores Comunitarios (AzCHOW por sus siglas en Ingles) estará otorgando un reconocimiento a un Promotor/a/Trabajador/a de Salud Comunitaria (CHW) en Arizona.
La Asociación Americana de Salud Pública a adoptado la siguiente definición: Un Promotor/a de salud comunitaria ( CHW ) es un miembro de confianza de primera línea de la salud pública y tiene un entendimiento profundo de las comunidades a las cual sirve. Esta relación de confianza permite al CHW servir como enlace e intermediario para facilitar el acceso a los servicios sociales,  de salud  y la comunidad; y así mejorar la calidad y la competencia cultural de los servicios ofrecidos. Un Trabajador Comunitario también fomenta la capacidad individual al igual que comunitaria, incrementando su conocimiento de salud y  auto suficiencia a través de una serie de actividades como alcance  y educación comunitaria,  consejería informal, apoyo  social y abogacía” (Asociación Americana de Salud Pública, 2009)
 
CHWs también son conocidos como Promotores, Community Health Representatives (CHRs), Cultural Health Navigators, Community Health Advisors, etc..
 El Ganador será presentado el día  viernes 17 de junio, durante el almuerzo en reconocimiento al DrPH Joel S. Meister (pionero y co-fundador del movimiento de promotoras en Arizona).

The Arizona Community Health Workers Association (AzCHOW) will recognize a community health worker, nominated by her/his colleagues, for excellence in service. Please read the terms below and make your nomination using the information below:

The American Public Health Association has adopted the following definition: A Promoter / a community health (CHW) is a trusted member of frontline public health and has a deep understanding of the communities it serves. This trust relationship allows the CHW to  serve as a liaison and intermediary between commnity members and service agenies  to facilitate access to social services, health and community. In this way, community health worker interventions improve access to services as well as the quality and cultural competence of the services offered. A community health worker also encourages individual and community capacity by helping community members increase  knowledge of health and self-sufficiency through a series of activities such as outreach and community education, informal counseling, social support and advocacy" (American Public Health Association, 2009 )
 CHWs are also known as promoters, Community Health Representatives (RHCs), Cultural Health Navigators, Community Health Advisors, etc .
 The winner will be presented on Friday, June 17, during lunch in recognition Dr. Joel S. Meister (pioneer and co-founder of the movement of promotoras in Arizona).
