School Supplies for 2016-17

Dear St. Andrew’s Families,

It is hard to believe that it is time to start preparing for the 2016-2017 school year.  An important part of this process is the procurement of school supplies.  Please find the school supply list for your student’s class on the School’s website at www.standrewsepiscopalschool.org and also included in the information you receive at the end of the year.

St. Andrew’s is pleased to partner with 1st Day School Supplies to offer a convenient and affordable option for purchasing your school supplies. A majority of the school supplies you need for next year can be purchased through their website (1stdayschoolsupplies.com) in a grade-specific kit.   All items from the kit will be delivered to the School over the summer and will be waiting for your child on the first day of school!  All you have to do is go to the website and purchase the kit by June 30th.  SAES teachers encourage parents to purchase 1st Day School Supplies Kits, so each child is ready for the first day of school!

Depending on the needs of your grade, you may also purchase additional items (K rest mat, calculator, flash drive) from the website separately.  As you will see from your supply list, there will also be other items not available to purchase from the kit for which you will be responsible.  These items include things that could be used from year-to-year such as spirit shirts, computer bags, etc. Please note that a red SAES spirit shirt should be purchased from our spirit-clothing vendor, Land’s End. Please see the School’s website for more information.

Please feel free to be in touch with the School Office with any questions or concerns as we endeavor to improve the school supply process for families.

To purchase your kit, please go to www.1stDaySchoolSupplies.com, and find St. Andrew’s by typing in zip code (70118). Select the grade level your child will be in 2016-17. Complete your order by June 30

Be sure to check the School website to determine if there are other items your child needs to bring in for the first day of school.

Class News:

The Kinderbears are almost First Graders!!! We are so proud of all that they have learned. The Kinderbear students spent a morning exploring their new classroom and getting excited about the school year ahead.

From the Rosenberg Library:

Students and teachers in grades PK - 3rd had lots of fun with Mr. Happy Johnson on Friday morning.

He read to us from his book The Adventures of Happy & Big Wanda, the story of a young man and his Fantastic First Aid Kit.

After a big storm, Happy is able to use the contents of his kit to provide neighbors with helpful items such as a solar-powered flashlight and a raincoat made from recycled grocery bags.

His message to us was to always be prepared during hurricane season!

Mr. Johnson had a great time, too, reading aloud, imitating a trumpet (did an excellent job), and  interacting with our students as he signed copies of his books .

Congratulations to Conner Apffel, St. Andrew's Class of 2013, Benjamin Franklin Class of 2017, for being awarded the Harvard Book Award at the Benjamin  Franklin High School Junior Class Awards Ceremony.

Since 1910, the Harvard Book Prize has been an important way for Harvard Club members (alumni) to help attract talented young people to Harvard and the opportunities in Cambridge.  Harvard Book Prize books are presented annually in more than 1,900 high schools around the world and are made available through generous donations from individual Harvard Club members. The Harvard Book Prize is awarded to an outstanding Junior year student selected by the faculty of each participating high school, based on academic excellence, exceptional personal qualities, and significant contribution to school or community.  Each winner receives a personally inscribed copy of “The Harvard Book”, an anthology of essays written by Harvard alumni spanning three centuries.
