Call for journal and series: Mediterranean Knowledge

The International Centre for Studies and Research for Mediterranean Knowledge announces a call for contributions to the Journal of Mediterranean Knowledge, and the book series, “Mediterranean, Knowledge, Culture and Heritage.”

The Journal Of Mediterranean Knowledge is seeking contributions for vol. 1, n. 2 (2016):
“Interculturality,” to be edited by F. Monceri.

The second issue of the Journal aims at investigating and rethinking the notion of “interculturality” understood in its broadest meaning, encompassing various dimensions, perspectives and approaches, with special attention to the Mediterranean area. Contributions will be considered coming from a variety of disciplinary fields within the humanities and the social sciences, as well as from interdisciplinary, intersectional and critical approaches and perspectives. On the one hand, the general purpose of the issue is to provide the readership with a comprehensive overview of current perspectives on interculturality and related notions. On the other hand, however, the issue will hopefully offer innovative perspectives on interculturality, to be usefully applied in contemporary complex and often (perceived as) conflictual situations arising from the encounters among people coming from different cultural contexts.

Just to orientate authors interested in submitting a paper, a non-exhaustive list of possible topics is given in the following:

  • Critical Intercultural Communication
  • Diaspora and interculturality
  • Gender, sexuality and interculturality
  • Intercultural communication and intercultural dialogue Intercultural competence
  • Intercultural education
  • Intercultural studies
  • Interculturality and citizenship
  • Interculturality and globalization
  • Interculturality and interculturalism
  • Interculturality in the Mediterranean area
  • Interfaith and Interreligious dialogue
  • Migration and interculturality
  • Multiculturalism, critical multiculturalism and interculturality Negotiation, conflict resolution and interculturality
  • Practices of intercultural encounters and communication Religion and interculturality
  • Representations of interculturality
  • Transculturation and transculturalism

Prospective authors are free to submit their works, provided that they are in line with the general theme and topics indicated in the call for papers, under one of the following sections:
Themes and perspectives will contain original research articles devoted to the topic chosen for the relating issue. Submitted papers must be between 35.000 and 45.000 characters, including spaces, notes and references.

Comments and debates will contain results of studies on single experiences, and/or comparing different territorial areas. The section will also include papers critically dealing with “hot topics” or translations and discussions of texts relevant to the general theme and topics addressed in the call for papers. Papers must be between 15.000 and 25.000 characters – including spaces, notes and references.

Review and reports will be devoted to the dissemination of news related to the general theme and topics addressed by the call for papers, both in the form of reviews of published texts (not only papers), and in the form of reports of conferences, congresses, workshops and national and international on-going research (papers must not exceed 10.000 characters – including spaces, notes and references).

Complete draft papers should be submitted, in English, by 31th July 2016. Authors are requested to submit online at http://www.mediterraneanknowledge.org/publications/index.php/journal/about/submissions. When asked to select the appropriate section, the authors will have to choose one of the three above- mentioned sections. Mediterranean, Knowledge, Culture and Heritage is a book series, edited byGiuseppe D’Angelo and Emiliana Mangone

The Book Series, published in electronic open access, shall be a permanent platform of discussion and comparison, experimentation and dissemination, promoting the achievement of methodological action-research goals, in order to enforce the development of the territories and of the local and European identities, starting from the cultural heritage and from the Mediterranean Area. All the research work revolves around three key topics:

  • Mediterranean: The knowledge and cultural values of southern Europe and the Mediterranean Area may represent the strategic elements to overcome the current crisis in Europe, to the point of becoming a stimulus for the review of policies.
  • Knowledge: Language, history, tradition and art have always conveyed dialogic relations and interpersonal relationships within societies, founding on otherness the peculiarities understood as knowledge development, processes, sedimentation and transformation.
  • What becomes peculiar is the "knowledge" as the achievement of an advantage derived from the possession of unique and inimitable knowledge.

Culture and Heritage: Culture, understood as its cultural heritage, is proposed as one of the privileged areas of the "new economy". In fact, the encounter between culture and territory represents one of the most valuable opportunities for development.

Each manuscript submitted in English will be subject to double-blind peer reviewing.
