NKBL 'Marks Story' social media Campaign

We’re launching a new social media campaign this June based on the “Mark’s Story” film. The aim of the campaign is to communicate the risks and consequences of knife carrying to young people across Scotland.

Between June and March we’ll follow Marks’ Story and the devastating consequences for his and the victim’s family, friends and community

Sign up as a campaign partner and ensure that we’re reaching young people in your area. All you have to do is share the material that we put out with young people that you have contact with. Sign up here and we’ll get in touch with more information.

Peer Education

This year we have a slightly different per education offer. We’re offering a half or full day NKBL training to any peer education groups that would like to add “knife carrying/knife crime” to the range of topics that they can deliver on.

Groups do not have to have had any previous involvement with the NKBL programme but should be part of an active, established peer education programme.

The training will offer young peer educators and supporting practitioners an overview of issues related to knife carrying and young people, an introduction to the range of NKBL resources available  and support to to begin designing workshops to deliver to other young people

The training will be delivered by Fast Forward. To book a session please contact Jane Dailly (NKBL National Delivery Team)

NKBL Practitioner Training

We are currently revising our toolkits and our training programme. The new programme will be launched on 24th August in Edinburgh. Sign up here to secure your place

The new training is designed to support anyone working directly with young people to develop and deliver knife crime prevention sessions and programmes using a youth work approach.

The training includes:
  • An introduction to youth work and prevention
  • Familiarisation with all of the NKBL resources available to support practice
  • The opportunity to have a go at developing and delivering a session using the NKBL toolkits and resources
The training should be useful to youth workers, campus officers/ community liaison officers, teachers, youth justice workers, sports coaches and anyone else working directly with young people and with a prevention role.

As always if you want us to run a local training at any point get in touch with us and we’ll see what we can do.

#iwill Campaign

This UK wide ‪#iwill‬ campaign aims to encourage and empower more young people to make a difference to their community and to causes they care about through activities such as volunteering, fundraising, campaigning and mentoring.

What could your organisation do to contribute to increasing the number of young people getting involved and widening the opportunities so that more young people can make a difference?

Examples of things you could pledge to support the #iwill campaign include:

  • Offering volunteering opportunities to young people
  • Supporting research into young people’s involvement in making a difference
  • Committing staff volunteering time to support activities that help young people to get involved, e.g. youth projects
  • Offering training to the Scottish #iwill ambassadors
  • Committing to promote the campaign through your media channels and your networks
  • Offering venues, technical expertise or catering for events associated with the #iwill campaign in Scotland and across the UK

There are many different ways that your organisation could contribute to the #iwill campaign – we can work with you to help to identify what your contribution can be.

Making a pledge to the campaign is a way to show your commitment to the aim of encouraging more young people to make a difference. It is a way to showcase the work you do in this field to other organisations and potentially an opportunity to build new partnerships.

To discuss your pledge please contact Liz Green or if you have your pledge ready then email it along with your logo and the contact details of the person who will be the main contact for #iwill to iwill@youthlinkscotland.org
