Council To Meet on NH Ave
On June 1 the Takoma Park City Council will meet at the Takoma Park Recreation Center, 7315 NH Avenue, next to IHOP, to be closer to residents and businesses in the Takoma/Langley Crossroads area of the City. A reception at 7pm with pupusas from Pupuseria El Comalito will give business owners and residents a chance to talk informally with the Mayor and council members. Members of the public are invited to make comments during the Public Comments period at the beginning of the meeting. Agenda items include a work session to follow up the February "Community Conversation on Affordable Housing Policy," and a discussion of revisions to the City's Community Grants Program.

Sponsor a Summer Banner
New summer banners will go up the first of July on 34 utility poles along University Boulevard and New Hampshire Avenue, giving businesses the opportunity to have their business name and phone number imprinted on a 30"x96" banner, visible to 89,000 passersby daily. Summer banners will hang from July-October and hung again in Summer 2017 and 2018, giving sponsors three Summer seasons for $400, including the custom banner, 3 installations and removals, 2 cleanings, and storage.

Farmers Market Opens 6/1
This Wednesday, Crossroads Farmers Market kicks off its 10th season at 11:00am with the ringing of 100 cowbells by public officials, funders, staff members, and other supporters. The market will operate every Wednesday, June-November, from 11am-3pm on Anne Street at University Boulevard. Special guests will be on hand to make opening remarks: Elanor Starmer, the USDA’s Agricultural Marketing Service Administrator, and Doug O’Brien, Senior White House Policy Advisor for Rural Affairs. Crossroads offers the season's freshest fruits and vegetables, as well as free-range meats and eggs, homemade pasta, honey, butter, artisanal breads, locally roasted coffee, healthy snacks, fresh-cut flowers, and potted plants.
This season, Crossroads welcomes a handful of new vendors: Owl's Nest Farm in Upper Marlboro, MD, will feature Certified Naturally Grown fruits and vegetables; Suttler's Post, of Mechanicsville, MD, will offer free-range eggs and affordable fresh-cut flowers; ECO City Farms, an educational nonprofit that operates sustainable local urban farms in Prince George’s County, will bring the Chesapeake Foodshed’s best microgreens, seedlings, and herbs, as well as seasonal fruits and vegetables; EatLuv, based in Lorton, VA, will sell clarified butter; and Second Rising Bakery, of Alexandria, VA, specializes in breads made from whole grains, butter, and honey. They join returning vendors such as Smith Meadows, Alcoba Coffee, Tuckey's Mountain Grown, Toigo Orchards, and Vegetales R.L. On average, vendors in this producers-only market are located just 50 miles from Takoma Park.
