Pen Pals Gather
This last week we had one final celebration of the year--another Pen Pal gathering. After a year of written correspondence, RSVP volunteers and 4th-graders in Ms. Spotten-Martinez's class at Eisenhower Elementary in Davenport finally got to meet each other. In addition to celebrating with cookies and punch, the pairs of Pals played board games, shared jokes, and decorated and exchanged smooth stones with inspirational words and pictures. To see more photos of this gathering, click here.
Below you'll find some new and ongoing volunteer opportunities. As always, we have more needs for volunteers than can be listed in a single email. Please call us for more information: Knox/Warren: 309-737-3073; QCA: 309-793-4425.

Mississippi Valley Regional Blood Center is giving its donors extra thanks when they donate during ‘summer slump,’ when the rate of blood donation drops about 10 – 15% (and even more around summer holidays, such as Memorial Day and July 4th). A brand-new Ford Fiesta is being given away this summer is thanks to friends at Clinton Auto Group/Lindquist Ford! Every time donors give between May 1 – September 30, they’ll be automatically entered to win! There will also be other special thanks during the summer months.
We need volunteer patients (victims) both in Rock Island and in Scott County in this simulated bioterrorism attack. If you have participated in such drills, you know they can be a lot of fun. In this case, "medicine" consists of candy. And, if you want to act, we have parts you can play to challende the responders.
These drills are very important in helping our communities prepare for disasters, epidemics, and terrorist attacks. Please join us, and if you want to bring family, friends, neighbors, colleagues too--as long as they are 18 or older--that would be wonderful.
As odd as it sounds, Disaster Drills are fascinating and fun. And of course, provide helpful information to responders.
