Behind the Scenes
Featuring Scott Shipman (Director)
Shrek: The Musical at Zilker Theatre Productions
From Onstage to Backstage
Having spent a third of his life with the Zilker Family, Scott is thrilled to transition from a performer to directing Shrek: The Musical this year with an incredibly devoted and excited production team and cast.
Scott's most recent role with ZTP was in last year's Hairspray as Edna Turnblad. (Pictured here performing in "Welcome to the 60s.")
You may have also seen him on The Hillside in notable roles such as as Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast, and Buffalo Bill Cody in Annie Get Your Gun.
In addition to his roles with ZTP, Scott has also worked with Zach Theater, Austin Playhouse, The Palace Theater, Arts on Real, Austin Lyric Opera, Archangel Theater, and as a guest artist at St. Edward's Mary Moody Northern Theater and at ACC. He has been nominated for numerous awards in the Austin arts community, and has worked professionally from Texas to Ohio to New York. He holds a BFA in Acting Performance from Southwest Texas State University (now Texas State University). Scott's most recent directorial project was the very well received Anything Goes at the Georgetown Palace Theater.
Scott Shipman, ZTP's talented Director of Shrek: The Musical
Scott says, “The opportunity to build on the success of last year and continue to build the Zilker Summer Musical fan base is a daunting, but extremely exciting, prospect.”
Like Family
In the theater world, it is said that when you do a show your cast and crew become like family. Scott tells us that nowhere has this been as powerful and as true than with ZTP.
He says, "It is with great honor that I am allowed to bring Shrek to life this summer with a company that is so near and dear to my heart.
