We can help you to strengthen your group's or organisation's governance.
Governance is the process of making and implementing decisions. Good governance is accountable and transparent, it follows the law, is responsive, equiatable and inclusive, efficient and effective, and involves those effected by decisions.
In charities and voluntary or community groups, trustees (also known as directors, board members, governors, or committee members), are responsible for governing their organisation and ensuring that it meets its purpose and uses its resources wisely.
The role of a trustee is generally a voluntary one. It can be daunting, particularly if you've never been one before - that's where our support comes in.
Over the last year we've supported 100 trustees from a range of groups and organisations to come together to meet with and learn from their peers, and to build their knowledge and skills around governance.
In our network meetings they've discussed and found solutions to topics such as raising income, charity finances, and managing change.
The network meetings improve trustee's confidence and knowledge to fulfill their roles. They also offer valuable support from others also undertaking this role.
But don't just take it from us, this is what one of our members has said about the benefits of the network:
"The governance network has helped to develop the knowledge and skills on our board of trustees. This has resulted in stronger governance.”
Natalie Woods, LGBT Switchboard
