Safety and regulation enforcement June 7 - 9

The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) has scheduled its annual truck inspection marathon for June 7-9, 2016. This is the 29th year for Roadcheck, during which inspectors check for motor carrier, vehicle, driver and cargo safety infractions. State, local and federal vehicle inspectors will set up inspection stations on major highways throughout North America, with a special focus on tire safety this year. During 2015 inspections, 4.8% of drivers were placed out of service for violations, with hours of service 46% and false logs 12.6% the largest contributors. Under mechanical issues last year, 17.5% of the vehicles were placed out of service, an improvement from 18.7% in 2015. Bad brakes remained the #1 violation at 27.5% and 15.5% maladjusted. Load issues were spotted in 15% of vehicles and tire problems in 14%. Note: At the recent NTA courtesy safety checks at North Platte and Waverly, more than 130 drivers and 80 NTA members participated, including students from Southeast Community College.
