Pederson's twin towers

Games played May 17, 2016

Dodgers CF Joc Pederson homered twice and drove in three runs in a 5-1 win over the Angels. Pederson might have had two more RBIs if not for Gregorio Petit's diving play in the 5th inning.  "He's really coming of age," manager Dave Roberts said after the game, citing Pederson's .916 OPS. Pederson and housemates Cory Seager and Trayce Thompson have combined for more home runs this season (21) than the rest of the Dodgers put together (18).

Red-hot Danny Valencia homered and stroked an RBI single in Oakland's 8-5 win over Texas. It was Valencia's sixth home run in the past five games and, at 447 feet, the longest shot in the Majors on Tuesday. Valencia also raised his slugging percentage to .600, which would rank fourth in the A.L. if he had enough at-bats to qualify (he has only 80). But Valencia's poor fielding -- he made his A.L.-worst seventh error Tuesday -- creates a conundrum for the A's.

Tigers 2B Ian Kinsler hit a two-run HR in a 7-2 win over Minnesota. The 11th-year veteran is showing renewed power, with nine HRs in 38 games versus 11 in 154 games last season. His nine round-trippers are tied for 8th in the American League.

After missing two games with a sore right wrist, Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun delivered an RBI single in a 4-2 win over the Cubs. He's the Brewers top hitter with runners in scoring position, hitting .421 in those situations along with a .522 on-base percentage and .658 slugging percentage. Braun's 28 RBIs are tied for 7th in the National League.

Toronto CF Kevin Pillar went hitless in a 12-2 loss to Tampa Bay. He also was fined an undisclosed amount of money for his role in Sunday's bench-clearing brawl with the Rangers. "It's unfortunate that it had to escalate like that, but in the moment, you gotta do what you think is right," he said in an interview.

Houston reliever Scott Feldman's did not play.

Best of luck to Oakland LF Sam Fuld, who is scheduled to undergo shoulder surgery today.

In his first game since the Marlins demoted him to Triple-A, reliever Craig Breslow yielded three earned runs on four hits over a single inning, leaving him with an unenviable 27.00 ERA.
