From the Director's Desk:

York County continues to amaze me with the forward motion happening on the economic development front. Our recruitment efforts reflect this forward motion as we see new firms coming to visit our area on a weekly basis, while concurrently seeing our existing companies continue to expand, ultimately bringing more jobs to the community.

Since January of this year, these announcements have totaled over $96 Million in capital investment and nearly 700 jobs in York County.

Our department completed phase one of our new marketing and branding initiative, resulting in a logo and tag line that more accurately reflects who we are and what York County has to offer here in South Carolina. In addition, we are nearing completion of the 40,000 square foot spec building in York, South Carolina.

Teamwork is the key ingredient that makes all these activities successful in our county. We have seen fantastic leaders rotate both off and on to the York County Economic Development Board over the last several months. Exiting leaders that have made a lasting mark and new leaders who will continue this charge – paving the way and helping to guide our economic development efforts in the County.

Working with our 18-member Economic Development Advisory Board and our seven member York County Council gives us a fantastic team of ambassadors that will help us in our attraction, diversification and promotion efforts.

There is much to look forward to as we transition into the summer season.  York County is wrapping up their Comprehensive Land Use Plan. Through the hard work of County staff and citizens, this new plan should provide many within the county both potential and direction for our future growth and development.  We should continue to see speculative building occurring in the area and even a few more announcements that will bring more jobs and growth to the area.

We give thanks every day for the good things that sustain our economy. We enjoy working hand in hand as a team to balance and best address challenges, while maximizing the opportunities that will make us better. This ensures that we will continue to be attractive to businesses and those that reside here. And this is how we can proudly say York County is -- The Location You Need. The Life You Want.
Sincerely,

– David Swenson, Director of York County Economic Development
