ISSUE 26 :: Disruptions :: WHAT'S UP :: WORTH A READ :: ROUND-UP :: IN-STUDIO

There have been disruptions galore in my sewing time the last several weeks. Not bad ones, necessarily - travel and busy times at the day job and such. But the flow of sewing at least a bit nearly every day hasn't been there, and I've missed it. This past weekend I had a chance to catch up some by finishing the binding on a quilt, make some bee blocks, and whip up a swap project. Boy that felt good. I'm not sure when sewing morphed from an occasional hobby to something that feels like breathing. But it's real. And am I ever glad to be breathing more freely again.

WHAT'S UP

May is for Makers continues, and it's been lovely seeing folks supporting indie designers. Here's what I've chosen so far:
  1. Chase/quarter inch mark's Patchwork kin-cha-ku
  2. The Hazel Pouch by Jennie/Clover & Violet [here's mine]
  3. A quilt pattern by Amy/Badskirt - Cordial on Sunday
  4. Debbie/Esch House Quiltsbook, Lines by Design Quilts because I'm smitten with her "Slats" pillows
Just one more week! How can it be almost June?

ROUND-UP

As I was mulling over a type of quilt to feature in this week's round-up, it dawned on me that what I really was in the mood for was sharing more of what I'd already featured. There's always new examples of each sort, right? And I just keep pinning them to their respective boards. So here's some quilts I've pinned since....
The 2015 BOM project for the Seattle Modern Quilt Guild was medallion quilts. Louise/I'm Feelin' Crafty made one of the most striking. Not only did she design her center block - the Inside Out Pineapple Block, but she did quilt-as-you-go, which was really genius. [imfeelincrafty]
Though only 17.5", AnnMarie/
RunandSew Quilts2016 Riley Blake Fabric Challenge quilt packs quite a punch! Made for the Modern Quilt Guild Spring Challenge, this uniquely set half-square triangle quilt makes me want to run to my sewing table right now. [runandsew]

Rarely have I seen such an inspired quilt. Karen/Pieces of Contentment says about her Aussie Landscape, "With Australian native plants flowering in the garden and glorious calls of Australian birds filling the air, I selected, stamped, cut, and carefully stitched and quilted a melody of beautiful natural Australian designed fabrics. Inspired by the earthy tones and textures of the linen, hemp and organic cotton fabrics and visions of our wonderful wide, open, sunny Australian horizons, ideas for an Australian landscape quilt gradually became reality." Indeed. Don't you agree this takes the name 'coin quilt' to a whole new level? [piecesofcontentment]

Lee/Freshly Pieced and I didn't connect in time for me to share her Greek Key quilt in my last issue, so I'm really glad to be able to share it now. Created for a Greek Key Quilt-Along on
Bernina's website, We All Sew, it's a stunning example, quite different than the Greek Key design I'd been familiar with before. #greekkeyquilt

I do love a plus quilt, and if they're wonky, all the better! So Jacey/Jacey Craft's Kona Crossing took my eye right away! She created the pattern, which is available on the Robert Kaufman webistsite, and wouldn't you know, the fabric, a Kona Blogger Bundle, is still available at Stash Fabrics. [jaceynotjc]

Another stunner is September/
[septembermiller]'s Cotton+Steel lawn quilt, her third quilt ever! The equilateral triangle pattern is from an online class by Stitched in Color, and I am so impressed with September's use of color.

IN-STUDIO

Making my studio a user-friendly and welcoming space matters to me, and I've made some improvements over the years that help make it so. All of the upgrades in my studio series can be found on my Studio pinboard, and suffice it to say that I'm always interested in what other folks do to make their sewing spaces work for them too.

Katie/Sew Katie Did just posted Studio Tools That Work for Me, and has a really inspiring quilting studio | livudio pinboard. And yup, I made my design wall a very reasonable facsimile of hers.

Also, there's an ongoing series from Katy/The Littlest Thistle. So far, she's shared about Organising Your Sewing Supplies - Part 1 [bobbins and thread] and Organising Your Sewing Supplies - Part 2 [zippers].

P.S. Just a reminder to back up your blog on a semi-regular basis! If you're on blogger, here's how.
