At the crossroads of Pentecost...
we celebrate the communion of God in a Holy Trinity. More than a doctrine or idea to grasp something of God, it is a communion out of which all creation including humanity comes into being, and into which we and all creation are drawn into relationship with the God of life and love and hope. Welcome communion in God Holy Trinity. Welcome all!

We gather on Sunday for Worship with Holy Communion at 10 AM.

Welcome All.

It was one of the great days of my life.  You are a wonderful church family.  God bless you all.

               Shelbourne Community Kitchen

A recent meeting with Sara Neely, Director of Philanthropic Services for the Victoria Foundation (VF), brought to light an opportunity for the Shelbourne
Community Kitchen (the Kitchen). As a registered charity, we are eligible to create a hosted endowment with the VF. On their website, the Victoria Foundation refers the endowments they establish with organizations as “hosted funds.”
An endowment fund is a fund set up to receive donations that will be held in permanence. The minimum amount required to establish an endowment with VF is $10,000. VF has offered the Kitchen a funding match of $7,500. We would need to contribute our $7,500 by early September 2016. Once we have raised the funds, VF will match them.  All donations to the fund would be held in the fund permanently, and interest will be paid out to us each year. As the fund grows, it will be a source of predictable income which will help to fund our programs.
The Kitchen has passed a motion to establish an endowment fund with the Victoria Foundation, and we are now embarking on a campaign to raise $7,500 by September 9, 2016, in order to receive the matching funds.
Benefits to the Shelbourne Community Kitchen with the establishment of an endowment with Victoria Foundation include:
· $7,500 matching opportunity
· Exposure to donors who don’t know about us, but want to support food        security. Through the VF’s website they can learn about who we are.
· Provides another way for donors to contribute. Some donors may prefer to give a gift that is held in permanence and pays interest to us on an ongoing basis.
· VF will accept in-kind gifts of publicly traded securities (not to be added to the fund) as a flow through to us at no-charge (we currently have no mechanism for this and it would be impractical for us to create one).
· VF will accept, issue receipts and flow through to us at no-charge, monetary gifts that donors request be sent to us (not to be added to the fund). We would be building a relationship with the VF, which will improve our chances at receiving their grant funding.
· We would have an opportunity to be included in their Vital Signs publication, by way of providing a measurement or indicator derived from our activities. This will help to raise our profile in Greater Victoria.
St. Aidan’s United Church, through their Social Action Team, has pledged $2,000 to the fund, so we now have a further $5,500 to raise to meet our goal by September.
Donations should be designated for the “Kitchen Endowment” and can be made through the church, or directly to the Kitchen. Donations made directly to the Kitchen can be mailed to 3541 Shelbourne Street, Victoria, V8P 4G6, or dropped off during business hours Tues – Fri 10:00am – 2:00pm. A tax receipt will be issued for donations of $20 and over.
I will be available directly after the worship service on May 22, to answer any questions you may have. If you prefer, you can contact me by phone or email at 250-658-1496 or
lacoch@telus.net  Information about the Victoria Foundation can be found online at http://www.victoriafoundation.bc.ca/

Thank you for considering this fundraising request.
Church of the Cross participates in the Thrifty Foods Smile program on an annual basis.  If you would like a Smile Card please speak with Deb in the office. Take the card to any Thrifty cashier and “load the card” with any amount of money, either by cash, cheque or from another credit card.  When you pay for your groceries, just give the Smile card to the cashier and the amount of your order will be deducted from the amount you placed on the card.  The church receives 5% of the amount you spend at Thrifty Foods. We are collecting funds for the upgrading and renovating of the downstairs bathroom in Luther House. This is an easy way to assist the congregation in receiving up to $3000 per year.
