THIS SUNDAY, May 22
Jewish Genealogical Society of Sacramento Presents:
"Emperor Norton's Fantastic San Francisco Time Machine"
10:00 a.m., Albert Einstein Residence Center, 1935 Wright Street, Sacramento
Take a trip back in time, and take peek into the amazing life of the late "Emperor of the United States and Protector of Mexico."
San Francisco tour guide, writer and historian Joseph Amster will appear in character and costume as "Emperor Norton," born Joshua Abraham Norton, a Jewish man who came to San Francisco in 1849. After initial success as an investor, Norton went bankrupt, and reinvented himself in 1859 as "Emperor Norton." As the Emperor, he ate complimentary restaurant meals, enjoyed gratis theater seats, rode public transit for free and even issued his own "Imperial Treasury Bonds" as legal tender.
All are welcome to attend and enjoy the presentation. For more information about the event, or about the genealogical society, please contact Mort Rumberg by clicking his name.
