Games played May 19, 2016

From the stats desk at Jewish Baseball News: through May 18, MLB batters overall were hitting a home run once every 31.8 at-bats. Jewish players? Once every 20.0 at-bats.

Having said that, there were no homers -- and not much of anything to talk about, actually -- on May 19.

Houston P Scott Feldman tossed a perfect inning of relief in a 2-1 loss to the White Sox, striking out one and retiring the side on 11 pitches, eight of them strikes.

Dodgers CF Joc Pederson went hitless in a 7-4 loss to the Angels but drove in his 21st run via a ground ball forceout.

Oakland 3B Danny Valencia singled and snared a searing line-drive off the bat of Starlin Castro in a 4-1 loss to the Yankees.

Toronto CF Kevin Pillar went hitless for a fourth straight game but earned his fourth outfield assist of the season in a 3-2 win over Minnesota, tying him for second place among all MLB center fielders in that category.

Ian Kinsler's Tigers were idle. In today's game against the Rays, he'll shoot to extend his homer streak to five games.

Milwaukee LF Ryan Braun sat out with a sore lower back.

On this date:

  • May 20, 1969: Chicago Cubs P Ken Holtzman tosses his third consecutive complete-game shutout. He performed the same feat in 1968 and is one of only 13 pitchers in MLB history to do so two or more times (see bio)
