Willoughby Historical Museum & Battle Ground Hotel Museum are now open for the season
Summer is here, and this is a time for us to open up two of our museums.
Battle Ground Hotel Museum is a wonderful interpreted 1850s tavern that explores early tourism life in our community. The Museum is located on the historic battlefield of Lundy’s Lane. Tours by costumed interpreters take you through life in the tavern and the impact of the Battle of Lundy’s Lane. It is open Friday – Sunday from 11am to 5pm until August 28th and located at 6151 Lundy’s Lane. We also provide tours of the battlefield on these days at 2pm. Please arrive early.
Willoughby Historical Museum explores the rural life of Niagara Falls. Located along the Parkway on the corner of Weaver Road, a visit to the museum will include an exploration of the history of Willoughby. This museum is open Wednesday – Sunday 11am to 5pm until August 30th.
Both museums offer free admission.

"FACES: Portraits From Our City"
The Niagara Falls History Museum is excited to announce its newest temporary exhibition, Faces: Portraits From Our City, opening in the Niagara History Museum on Saturday, May 14, 2016. The images shown in this exhibition are portraits from two collections brought together to highlight this classic genre of portraiture.
The artworks included will move the viewer through a variety of themes and mediums --- from portraits commissioned as statements of power to the highly stylized constructs found in the abstract. The exhibition showcases more than 40 portraits from the historical collections of the Niagara Falls Museums and contemporary collection of the Niagara Falls Art Gallery.
Faces Portraits Exhibition will be featured at the Niagara Falls History Museum, 5810 Ferry Street, from May 14 to November 27, 2016.

The Fenian Raids
This year is the 200th anniversary of the Fenian Raids of 1866. Although the Fenian "invasion" was short-lived, it had a profound impact on the emerging country of Canada. It led to greater cohesion within Canada, and a realization that Canada would have to develop its own military defence system. Indeed, many believe that the Fenian Raids of 1866 catalysed the union of New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Upper and Lower Canada, into the Dominion of Canada in 1867. To learn more about the raids, follow the link below:
