Ua hiki mai ke Kauwela!

Summer is a season of vibrancy and our programs are in full force. We are excited to empower and launch our youth program participants into the field as they continue to build a brighter future for Hawaiʻi.

We recently sent 83 young adults in our HYCC Summer program across the state to learn more about our environment, serve in their communities, restore ʻāina and rediscover themselves. We also graduated 20 youth from our second C-Base class with their high school equivalency diploma. Hundreds of members from the community came out to support our graduating class in an inspiring ceremony that allowed the graduates to share their stories of overcoming challenges and adversities. We also kicked off a cohort of 18 interns with the Kamehameha Schools Sustainability Internship Program, a new partnership empowering young adults to create a more sustainable Hawaiʻi. Finally, 10 of our RISE fellows working with Hawaiʻi Energy, Opterra Energy Services and Hawaiian Airlines will be graduating in July just as we onboard 4 new RISE fellows working with Energy Excelerator.

Summer is truly a very busy time of the year and we are excited to see what is in store for our youth as they embark on their new adventures that are in line with truly serving the community.

Me ka haʻahaʻa,

John Leong

NOTES FROM THE FIELD
Last month, we had the wonderful opportunity to partner with Whole Foods Market Kāhala on their 5% Shopping Day. We thank everyone who joined us and supported Kupu programs by shopping at Whole Foods Market on May 11th. We had a lot of fun showcasing our programs and we hope that everyone who joined us learned something too. We are excited to announce that as a result of the 5% Shopping Day, Whole Foods Market donated $7,501.05, to be used to develop Kupu programs. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Whole Foods Market in the future
Applications for the 2016-17 Extended Internship Program will remain open with a priority deadline on June 30th. Apply now and work alongside environmental mentors, gaining invaluable work experience as you contribute to a more sustainable future for Hawaiʻi. Youth leader and DOE environment education positions available as well. The internship runs for 11 months from October 2016 - August 2017. Don't miss out on this amazing opportunity.
Earlier this month, we hosted over 100 of our program members and alumni at our 7th annual Environmental Fair, and it was a great success. Many of our partners participated and provided engaging and educational activities showcasing their work in conservation and sustainability. We are truly blessed to be able to partner with such great organizations.

Photos and updates from this great event can be viewed on our website.
