Welcome to the latest WageIndicator Foundation newsletter. In this issue we tell you about our Wages in Context analysis in over 50 countries, and our latest WI app for calculating Cost of Living. We also fill you in on you on our unique study of the garment industry in nine Asian countries, which focuses on living wages. Our global check on minimum wages includes updates in several countries, and we keep you informed about new additions to our Collective Bargaining Agreement database. Wages in Context in 50 plus Countries

Is the average salary enough to cover the basic monthly expenses for food, housing and transport of a family? WageIndicator Wages in Context analysis reveals some surprising facts and figures regarding wages of the world in over 50 countries.

New WageIndicator Cost of Living App

WageIndicator has introduced a new app for calculating Cost of Living which complements the existing online Cost of Living survey and Wages in Context calculations. This means that everybody with a smartphone, tablet or laptop can collect prices offline. Prices for oranges, rice, water, housing, transport (over 100 essential items from a standard list that is already in use), are all registered. This Cost of Living data, when collected together, is used to calculate ranges of living wages for individuals as well as families.

New International Minimum Wage Rates

Minimum Wage changed in Ireland from March 1, Mozambique, Peru and Canada from April 1 and Romania from May 1.

Collective Agreement database is growing

The WageIndicator Collective Agreement database now contains 549 collective agreements from 29 different countries. The latest additions come from countries including Senegal, Colombia and Kenya.

How Bad - or Good is the Gender Pay Gap in Europe?

How big is the Gender Pay Gap in Belgium? How does this compare with Spain? Which occupations are better for women in terms of equal salaries? And how high up the ladder are these differences reflected? WageIndicator has released a comprehensive study of the Gender Pay Gap in over 30 European countries, which compares make and female salaries at the level of occupational groups.

Nine Asian Countries in Intensive WageIndicator Study for Living Wages

The WageIndicator Foundation has just completed an intensive study of the garment industry in nine Asian countries - Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Myanmar, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Vietnam. The research was done at the request of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Netherlands, on behalf of the Asian Living Wage Conference (ALWC) in Pakistan in 2016. The ALWC aims to engage Asian textile-producing countries to implement living wages. The topics include a look at minimum wages, cost of living, and country-specific hurdles for realising living wages.
