Welcome to the month of June, which means Summer Preview is upon us. Please read more information regarding the Summer Preview dates in the article below.
On May 20th, we gathered for our Annual Division of Student Life Symposium. We began the day with a Keynote Speaker from Gallup, Dr. Mike McDonald, who presented on "Using Our Strengths Together." This was an informative and lively program, where everyone was able to learn more about their key strengths and how these can impact working relationships. We then had 2 Break-Out Sessions, with 4 program options available during each session. This was followed by a delicious lunch and a Keynote Address by Dr. Leah Georges, an Assistant Professor in the interdisciplinary Ed.D. Program in Leadership at Creighton University. Dr. Georges' presentation focused on "Thriving in a Multigenerational Workforce," focused on how the various generations can interact and provide talents within the context of their own generational experience within the workplace. I want to thank the For and With Others Committee on the coordination of a meaningful and enlightening Symposium.
Rich Rossi's Retirement
I want to thank everyone for celebrating with our colleague, Dr. Rich Rossi, at his retirement reception yesterday. Rich's last day in Student Life will be June 3rd, and he will subsequently move on as the Interim Special Assistant to the President and Liaison to the Board of Trustees on July 1st. I personally want to express my sincere appreciation for Rich's many years of service as the Associate Vice Provost for Residence Life. While he will be missed in our Division, we will at least have some time to see him on campus in the future.

Submitting an Article for the Monthly DSL Communication
Submitted by Joan Kowalski
Our Division is entering into the future of utilizing our official DSL Communication for all things "Student Life" on a once a month basis. We have determined this is a better alternative to receiving several e-mails from the Vice Provost's office regarding all the happenings in the division. It is our hope to keep your in-box free of those "Joan" e-mails.
In order to be intentional with our monthly communication, we need your assistance. This is YOUR communication, YOUR opportunity to share with your colleagues what is happening across our Division.
How to Submit Articles
Send your article submissions to kowalski@creighton.edu by the 15th of each month (if the 15th is on a weekend, the following Monday will be the deadline).
What can I Submit for the Communication?
Student Life Director Updates
Important information that Directors may want to share with the entire division for the upcoming month relating to their individual Departments. You can be creative! You can provide images and videos with your article.
Does your department need support from the Division? This is your venue to ask for support.
Student life Committee Updates
The Divisional Committees can share highlights of their respective work.
Does your committee have an event which needs support from the Division? This is your venue to ask for that support.
GO! Credits
The calendar contained within this communication will indicate the upcoming GO! programs for the month.
Staff Development Seminar Updates
A brief outline of the Staff Development Seminars for those within our Division who are not able to attend due to their respective job responsibilities will be contained in the message from Dr. Winegard for each month a seminar is hosted.
Important Information Relating to Key Campus Partners
This could include announcements that may appear in JayNet News, Creighton Today, or other venues which some may overlook or not have access to.
All Encompassing Calendar of Events/Happenings
A calendar will be embedded in the communication for each month. If you have an event which you want others to be aware of, this is your opportunity to have this placed in the Divisional calendar.
What is required when you forward your submission?
Submissions must include all necessary information (i.e., who, what, when, where, why, how).
If your announcement contains a logo/graphic that correlates with your announcement, this must be provided in jpeg format. This will ensure that a clear image will be published in the communication.
Please compose your message with the language that you want to appear in the communication.

With the beginning of the summer, Residence Life has begun several projects in the Residence Halls:
In collaboration with DoIT, wireless APs will be installed in each resident room in Kiewit and Swanson Halls. This will greatly increase students' connectivity to the network. Work started on May 9th and will conclude in mid-August.
Kiewit Hall is replacing two old air-handler units (AHU) with a single, more efficient AHU. These units heat and cool the community bathrooms in the building as well as the first floor and community bathrooms. During the project, a temporary A/C unit will be placed on the west side of Kiewit Hall to temper the air on the first floor. Work started on May 9th and will conclude near the end of July.
Heider Hall will be finishing its final phase of unit work this summer. Water, waste, and steam lines are replaced as well as HVAC upgrades in each of the 05 and 07 units. In addition, the 05 unites (floors 2-10) will be upgraded to become fully ADA accessible. Work started May 11th and will conclude in mid-August.
In addition, Heider Hall will also undergo a complete renovation of the first floor. This project will better utilize the space of the first floor, as well as providing security enhancements. This project will begin in early to mid-June and continue into the fall semester.
Kiewit, Gallagher, and Becker halls experienced a planned power interruption on Monday, May 16th, as part of the University's high voltage project. This outage was part of the process to bring these buildings onto the new power grid.
Swanson Hall is having two new water heaters installed this summer. These heaters are more energy efficient and will replace the existing aging units. A temporary water heater may be situated outside of Swanson at times during the project. Work started May 9th and will conclude by the end of July.
While not a project, the apartment turnover process took place between Sunday, May 15th and Wednesday, May 18th, in Opus Hall and Davis Square. Facilities Management, contractors, and Residence Life teamed up to prepare 113 full apartments and an additional 32 partial apartments in a 72-hour period. Rising juniors were able to move into their new apartments on Wednesday, May 18th.
