Message From The President

The unexpected anxiety of parenthood

Dear Friend,

Sometimes I tiptoe into my two-year-old son’s bedroom at night when he’s asleep to make sure he’s breathing. Have you ever done the same thing with your children? I realize it’s completely irrational, but I have to make sure everyone in the house is safe and sound before I can go to sleep. How did I become so anxious?

Working With The Community

Siris Barrios of Riverside Rediscovered on partnering with the Children's Museum

Last month, CMEE received funding through the National Endowment for the Arts to expand its “Community Creates” program, which brings the arts directly into underserved communities across the region. Among the communities is Riverside, a hamlet in Southampton, which is just south of the Peconic River from Riverhead. It’s one of the poorest communities on the East End. To serve families in Riverside, CMEE connected with Riverside Rediscovered, which is helping to redevelop the area based on community input. CMEE’s Marketing Coordintor, Paul Johnson interviewed Siris Barrios, Riverside Rediscovered’s Community Liaison for CMEE’s Newsletter this month.

Chatting With the Children's Museum's Front Desk Registrar, Brittany Wilms

Whether she's scheduling programs, ensuring community events run smoothly, or providing band-aids for kids with boo boos, Brittany Wilms is a vital member of the CMEE Staff. If we weren't impressed with her already, she also recently completed her Master's in Teaching Students With Disabilities!

"I absolutely love working here. I'm always amazed to see how excited the kids get when they walk through the doors. It's fun getting to know them, watching them grow and change. It's one of the reasons I wanted to become an educator. You always have that one teacher that makes a lifelong impact. I wanted to be like that teacher and make difference."
