Mark McComb
Bus. Admin, UC Berkeley
Partner - KPMG LLP

Please describe your career path.
At Cal I had internships with Chevron and Arthur Andersen. Upon graduation, I started with Arthur Andersen full-time and was there until 2002. I have been with KPMG since then. I have been based in the Bay Area my whole career, and now lead our firm's healthcare industry and audit practice in Northern California.

What kinds of problems do you face in your job?
Obamacare has sparked significant changes in the healthcare industry. We are helping our clients through affiliations of many flavors as industry participants coordinate to better manage the health of patients. We are also working with clients to help sort out complex payment arrangements under Obamacare.

What are the benefits of starting a career in public accounting?
Public accounting firms all devote significant resources to continuing education (one of the reasons that all of the Big 4 firms are in the Fortune top 100 best places to work). Associates gain technical accounting, analytical, project management and people management skills that are valuable throughout a career.
