Clifton Down Greenvine

The ward newsletter for Green Party Councillors Carla Denyer and Clive Stevens

Welcome to our first ward newsletter for the new ward of Clifton Down. Carla has been re-elected and Clive has been elected too - thank you to all who voted for us! But if you didn't vote for us don't worry, we are here to represent everyone in our ward, and take that role very seriously.

Read on for news of community events, local issues and what we've been up to.

Of course not everyone uses email, so we deliver occasional paper versions, but this e-newsletter will be more frequent. Feel free to share it and encourage others to sign up, via http://eepurl.com/byvViH

This newsletter is about your ward and what you are doing in it too. So email us on cllr.carla.denyer@bristol.gov.uk (note new email address) or cllr.clive.stevens@bristol.gov.uk to have your event or news included.

Cotham Hill Street Party

...went very well again this year. Well done to Simon (from the Oxfam bookshop) and his team for their hard work.

Overflowing bins and fly-tipping

Clive and Carla have been working on long-term solutions to several problem sites in the ward, including Alma Vale Road and Cobbler Lane.

For example, these bins on Alma Vale Road seem to be used by all and sundry, whereas they were inteded only for use by a limited number of flats. The result is that they get overfull and then waste is left on the pavement which the foxes get at. The level of "intensive care" we put in over this bank holiday weekend, including daily inspections, isn't sustainable over the long term, so we're trying to find a solution that is.

If you spot other sites that need clearing up, you can report on the Council website here (for collection next working day), or contact us if it's an ongoing unresolved problem.
Bristol 11 Green Councillors

On the Council

Carla and Clive are part of a team of 11 Green councillors on Bristol City Council, making us the third largest group.

Since the election, Carla has been working hard in her role as group whip (although Greens use the whip differently to other parties...) to negotiate the Greens' seat on the cabinet and committees, and preparing the group for it's first Full Council meeting, tomorrow. Meanwhile, Clive has been attending lots of new councillor training sessions, and getting his teeth into casework. He has also been preparing for one of his new roles, as Vice Chair of the Audit Commitee, utilising his business skills to keep Bristol’s new Labour Administration on their toes.

Roadworks for Bristol Water

Bristol Water are currently undertaking £3m of work to renovate the Strategic Water Main that stretches from Victoria Pumping Station on Oakfield Road to Greenbank Cemetery. Unfortunately, this does mean some roadworks and disruption. For details of the planned works, visit: www.bristolwater.co.uk/help-support/work-in-your-area/oakfield-road-to-st-pauls/

Possible new flats at 27 All Saints Road

The developer is appealing against the Council's decision to reject the application. We are supporting the Council's decision and Clive has written a letter to the Inspector, who has the final say.

To find out more, visit the Planning Online pages and search 16/20029/REF. To see Clive's letter, click here. If you want to comment to us as to whether you agree with our analysis or not, please email Clive.

EU Referendum

Want to know about the Green Party stance on the EU?

Greens want Britain to remain a part of the EU because we believe that we need to work together on shared solutions to the collective challenges we face.

Read more from Molly Scott Cato, Green MEP for the South West, at www.swgreenerin.org.uk

And if you've moved home recently don't forget to register to vote by 7 June - and get a postal vote if you'll be away on the 23rd.

Best wishes,

Carla & Clive
