Bearded Bros, Men with Mo's and Chicks with Faux BATTLE it out in
The Sunshine Coast's 3rd Annual Beard and Moustache Competition

After two consecutive years of packed out competitions, The Bearded Men of the Sunshine Coast are prepping for their third annual battle.  Drawing large crowds from across the state, and interstate, the competition in past years has been a hit with facial haired fanatics and appreciators Australia wide.
Alongside an extra 12 months of facial hair growth, The Sunshine Coast's 2016 Beard and Moustache Competition will also grow in size with the event offering bigger prizes, tougher competition and to be held at a larger venue.  Beards and moustaches will need to be prepped, groomed and refined for their big comp on Saturday July 9 at Black Bunny Kitchen in Alexandra Headlands.  A panel of judges will assess and score all competitors with harsh critique, alongside a crowd vote to declare the winner and proud host of the best facial hair on the Sunshine Coast.

There is so much more to compete for than just being crowned the champion. Thanks to the sponsors of the event, there is a prize pool valued at over $1000. A winner for each of the six categories and an over all Champion of 2016 will be titled.  The six categories include:  Over 20cm Natural Beard, Over 10cm Natural Beard, Under 10cm Natural Beard, Partial Beard, Moustache and Whiskerina.  The Whiskerina category is for female competitors with the opportunity to take out the faux facial hair title.  Only 20 competitors for each category will be allowed this year as previous years has seen up to 40 competitors in various individual categories.  Registration is essential and potential competitors are encouraged to pre-register online to be sure not to miss out.

The night will also see a number new additions to the event at Black Bunny Kitchen.  Blues - Rock band from the Gold Coast, Phil Barlow and The Wolf will perform throughout the night as a full band.  Known for their bold rockin' blues numbers and a dynamic onstage performance, Phil Barlow is a bearded favourite performing at Blues on Broadbeach and Mitchell Creek Music Festival in recent months.
Black Bunny's new BBQ Blowout will be a highlight of the event with a large range of house smoked and barbecued menu items that will be slow cooking for hours in the lead up to the comp.  Murray's Brewing will run a 'Tap Takeover' along with a Karma Keg where patrons have the opportunity to pay what they want for schooners of the craft brew.  All proceeds from the Karma Keg will go to the Bearded Men of the Sunshine Coast's charity of choice.

Event organiser and founder of the Bearded Men of the Sunshine Coast recommends to start grooming now 'This year taking home the title will be even tougher, beards are fiercer, mo's are thicker and our judges are harsher.  We can't wait to see the results'  Nathen Coles, Founder, Bearded Men of the Sunshine Coast.

The Bearded Men of the Sunshine Coast formed in 2013 as a social club for those with an appreciation of facial hair.  Since then the club has raised hundreds of dollars for charity and hosts three successful events each year supporting local community, original music and, of course, facial hair associates.

With crowd numbers well over 200 for the last two consecutive years, the 2016 comp is expected to thicken out again.  The Sunshine Coast's Third Annual Beard and Moustache Competition will be held on Saturday July 9 at Black Bunny Kitchen.  Craft beer bar and restaurant, Black Bunny, is located at 180 Alexandra Parade, Alexandra Headlands.  Pre-registration for the event is recommended via www.beardedmenofthesc.com.au or is available on the day from 5pm.  Registration is $5 donated to charity and entry is free. The competition will commence at 6pm.
