Triple Helix Models of Innovation – Addressing Ecosystem Challenges in the Era of Crises

We have introduced a number of new sessions in the program and as we would like to facilitate a striving intellectual enterprise, we have extended our deadlines for submission of abstracts – both for our main scientific tracks, but also for the new events. You could upload your abstract and practitioner cases now until 30 June 2016.

  • Hans-Peter Hiepe (German Federal Ministry of Education and Research) who is responsible for regional innovation initiatives and the development of former Regions of East Germany will join our Panel on the Germany Innovation Ecosystem.
  • Dimitri Corpakis (European Commission, DG Research & Innovation) Directorate for Open Innovation and Open Science will address the European view on crises.
/// INTERACT   Adriano la Vopa (Innoventually; former Philipps) will host a workshop for practitioners dealing with open innovation possibilities in research and academia: Inbound or Outbound: Where the Opportunities for Academia?
Panayiotis Ketikidis (Vice Principal at the University of Sheffield International Faculty, CITY College Thessaloniki, Greece) will host a workshop session with focus on EU funded projects, brainstorming for participation.  Read more

The TH Talks Series is looking for Champions
The TH TALK Series aims at inspiring and engaging our society and extended network by offering them 10 minutes video-recorded interviews with our THA Champions. Tha Series is open to THA members who would like to be interviewed to present their TH practices, achievements and success cases to our international community. If you want to showcase your experience and be a Triple Helix Champion, TH Talks is the place for you! Please email to: lucascoelho@nextainnovation.com your short presentation and the experience you intend to present. Lucas Coelho, the Chair of the TH Talk will schedule with you the interview.

Working Paper Series has a new mentor!
The THA Working Paper Series is delighted to introduce to the THA community its new Mentor, Mike Burbridge.  Mike is currently a PHD student at Curtin University Sustainability (CUSP) Institute looking into how business, government and academia can together innovate to deliver a low carbon future. Prior to his studies he has worked on sustainable development for 25 years in government (UK and Australia) business (UK) and academia (Australia) where he was the Executive Director of the Australian Sustainable Development Institute. He left this post to study as he was sure there is a better way for universities, industry and government to work together to deliver mutual benefits. He got his undergraduate degree from University College London and his Masters at the Environmental Change Institute University of Oxford. NETMIB project: Phase one finishing soon!
The research, benchmarking and field work of the NetMIB project aimed the identification of best practices in entrepreneurship education, incubation, governance and reward systems. Under the coordination of the phase leader South East European Research Centre (SEERC), every project partner carried out desk research and interviewing to collect diversified information from institutions like for example Aalto University, Complutense University of Madrid, Carlos III University of Madrid,  Politecnico di Milano, Tampere University of Technology, Tampere University of Applied Sciences, University of Ohio, University of Tampere and University of Victoria. The benchmarks will help to design the NetMIB program and also support recommendations for its implementation. The THA community will be informed upon publication of the  research and benchmarking report.

Helice is launching a call for TH pitcures
Our Helice Magazine is looking for new pictures that exemplify Triple Helix interactions in different ways and we invite our Community to contribute to our call! The best pictures (4 best pictures per year)  will go on the cover of each Magazine issue. You can send your pictures to mlaura.fornaci@triplehelixassociation.org by 24th June. The proponents of the best 4 selected images will be awarded with a free student individual THA membership valid for 12 months.

THA President visiting TH Russian Chapter in May
On May 20th Henry Etzkowitz, THA President, visited the official Triple Helix Russian Chapter that is based at Lomonosov Moscow State University (Innovation department) and a few more events in Russia. During the trip he hosted a speech at X International Forum “From Science to Business” at Sant.Petersburg. Read more

GEUM Workshop , Silicon Valley 3-5 June 2016
On 3-5 June 2016, the International Triple Helix Institute (ITHI)  in cooperation with the Triple Helix Association (THA) hosted the second GEUM workshop in Palo Alto, Silicon Valley, USA. The Global Entrepreneurial University Metrics initiative (GEUM) has already produced some new results since the first research projects from the initiative break through: Brazil, Finland, Austria and Russia have conducted the GEUM studies in their countries and presented the results in the workshop that moved between Dinah’s Garden Hotel, Stanford University and a prototypical Silicon Valley “garage Setting” the past week-end. “The Workshop was very interesting and also, it was a great opportunity to share our knowledge about entrepreneurial universities and meet old colleagues in this field” – says David Urbano, Associate Professor of Entrepreneurship at the Department of Business, Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain)/University of California Berkeley. Read more

GEUM Round Table in Russia, 20 May 2016
Global Entrepreneurial University Metrics (GEUM initiative) Round Table discussion “Development Standards of the Innovative Entrepreneurial University” was held at III International Conference “Education and Global Cities: Horizons for Contemporary University” (Russia). Panel of experts including prof. Henry Etzkowitz discussed a new role of a global, multidisciplinary and entrepreneurial universities in a modern world and finding adequate instruments to measure their effectiveness. Results of Russian comparative study of 35 leading innovative Russian universities were presented as a pilot study.

Trilicious innovation game applied to Kossovo students
Mr. Besart Hajrizi, a research associate of the South East European Research Center (SEERC) - PhD candidate of the University of Sheffield and member of the Triple Helix Association (THA) Chapter of Greece, on 7th of May 2016 organized an event with students from Kosovo at the University of Mitrovica “Isa Boletini” to familiarize them with the Triple Helix model. After the presentation, the Trilicious Innovation Game was employed in order to solve three different kinds of problems, National, Regional and Local. Read more


Towards Innovative Pakistan: Essay Writing Competition and Innovation Award
SATHA Chapter launched a contents for the best papers related to innovation/science & Technology Policies. The best three papers of each category will be awarded with the “Innovation Award for Innovation Policy Research". SATHA advocates for innovation driven S&T policies integrating stakeholders for better socioeconomic impact. Read more
