May 2016 Summary!

Greetings MaSHers!

It's official, judging for the 2016 Marin County Fair is complete!  BJCP filing is done, judging points registered. There were 136 listed entries (there was at least one entry not submitted) at the fair this year, which was double last year.  I want to start with a big thank you to all the volunteers that helped before, during and after the fair.  The biggest news of the weekend is definitely the best of show winner.  A big hearty congrats goes to the 2016 Marin County Fair Homebrew competition winner and their delicious brew.....I can't tell you yet.  It was a club member though to help keep things suspenseful.

There were many great entries this year and I encourage members to enter next year and volunteer.  If you attend the fair you'll get two free tickets.  That alone is worth it but you also get an opportunity to taste a lot of interesting brews.  It's not over yet, we still have the exhibit to setup and figure out what we want to display.  If you're interested in helping with that please let me know.

Important items to note:

  • Quarterly style competition - Belgian Wit - is scheduled for the June meeting.  Please drop off entries at J&M by 5PM on Sat June 11.  If you can't make that drop-off please let me know and we can work something out.  I'd rather you emailed me than not submit your entry.
  • The Northern California Homebrew festival is in September but sign-up is in July.  The club can potentially sponsor a tent if there is enough club interest.  More details here http://www.nchfinfo.org/.  Please let me know if interested.
  • July meeting will likely be offsite, potentially at Iron Springs.  If anyone else has another suggestion that works too.  The club has historically done a summer family BBQ at Marinwood Park and could do it again this year if so desired.  The park has a convenient field, bbq areas and a nice play area.  The last couple times we rented a spot but we can also just show up with chairs, tables, bbq, etc.
  • Label Competition - Bring your labels to the June meeting for an internal club competition.  Most / All labels will likely be displayed at the fair.  I don't think they have restrictions assuming it's not horribly offensive.  If it is horribly offensive be sure to bring it to the meeting.

See you in June at the club meeting and expect the June Newsletter soon!

Bottom's Up,
Damien
