Castro Cares provides compassionate care to those at risk and living on the streets in the Castro/Upper Market. Instead of creating our own social service system, Castro Cares taps into the city's existing system. Castro Cares pays for 16 hours a week of homeless outreach workers, from SF HOT, plus the Department of Public Health pays for 4 hours a week of case managers to consistently walk the district, build relationships and connect people to the social services system. Castro Cares homeless outreach workers are also working closely with our community institutions to create trust with those at risk.
Law Enforcement
S.F. Patrol Special Police walk the beat for Castro Cares 62 hours/week. Look for the Patrol Special Officer:
Monday 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Tuesday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Wednesday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Thursday 7 a.m. - 3 p.m.
Friday 7 a.m. - 1 p.m.
Sundays 9 a.m. - 7 p.m.
The Patrol Special officers routinely walk those areas most heavily impacted by quality of life challenges including 16th, Pond, Hartford, Castro, 18th, Church and Duboce alley behind Safeway and Market and Waller Streets. The officers also collaborate with the Castro Cares homeless outreach team to provide a combination of compassionate services and enforcement - working together to encourage people to engage in the social services system.
The Castro Cares funded Patrol Special officers wake people up and advise them they need to move along, break up arguments and fights, assist people in finding social services and work closely with SFPD and DPW, calling for backup to clear encampments when necessary.

Castro Cares Homeless Outreach Workers walk the footprint of Castro Cares Monday - Friday.
Monday & Friday 7:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
Tuesday 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. (case manager)
Wednesday & Thursday 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m.
Friday 1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. (case manager)
Over the past year the Castro Cares homeless outreach team has a 60% positive engagement rate! This means that 60% of the contacts are either accepting assistance and/or developing a positive relationship with the HOT worker. Castro Cares HOT can be reached by calling the SF HOT Dispatch number 415-355-7445.
Those of you who have been following this newsletter might remember a story about a older man, living on the street, covered in lice with sores all over his body and how Castro Cares outreach workers and case managers got him to trust them enough so he would get medical treatment. Well this man had other disabilities and issues and was eligible for housing. Castro Cares case managers have moved into his own apartment! Furniture was donated to Castro Cares to help him set up his apartment and he is safely living inside in a supported housing situation.

NO TRESPASSING signs
Loitering and Camping Information
San Francisco Municipal Police Code 25 "No Trespassing" signs are required for police and other law enforcement officers to take action regarding loitering, sleeping, panhandling, etc. on your premises when an owner's representative is not present, such as late at night. To be fully enforceable and effective and in compliance with City rules, the signs must be signed and bear a current-period date. They must be replaced every six months, at the beginning of January for the first half of the year (use a yellow sign), and at the beginning of July for the second half of the year, (use a green sign). Copies of the signs are available from the CBD Dispatch service, email the CBD.You can also pick up signs from cooperating merchants in the District, P.O. Plus (584 Castro), or at S.F.P.D. Mission Station (630 Valencia at 17th Street.
