April - May 2016


On the 27th & 28th of April  we held an Ageless Grace training event co-hosted  by Ali Allen Trainer. Cathrina is now qualified to teach others how to become educators and we now have five educators across our homes Fiona, Katrina, Holly, Sylvia & Charmaine and daily Ageless Grace sessions will be held in each home .

Friday 8th April we launched our Admiral Nurse Service, we were well supported with 70 guests and guest speaker Tommy Whitelaw . £2500 was raised for Dementia UK and will be used to help families in our locality. 
“Together we can transform dementia care support and research” PM David Cameron. 
In March 2012 the PM launched a national challenge to fight dementia – an unprecedented programme of action to deliver sustained improvements in health and care, create dementia friendly communities, and boost dementia research.
David Cameron and the Conservative government has a vision that by 2020 England will be:
The best country in the world for dementia care and support and for people with dementia, their carers and families to live. The best place in the world to undertake research into dementia and other neurodegenerative diseases.
This conference  examined  progress to date and was informative to attendees , speakers included Andrea Sutcliffe , Chief Inspector of Adult Social Care, Care Quality Commission , George McNamara 
Head of Policy and Public Affairs, Alzheimer`s Society ,Professor Alistair Burns CBE , National Clinical Director for Dementia NHS England
Team Training Courses
Kim G—Deputy Manager Chapel House has commenced her level five in Management
Rahul—Staff Nurse Chapel House has commenced  a level two course in leadership
Sophie, Gemma, Ashley, Paul, Julia, Kim Mc , Amy, Jess and Amy-Lou have all commenced a level two qualification in medication safety.
Gemma K—Night Sister is enrolled as a dementia Friends Champion

This was a really constructive day and our “butterfly steering group” will meet once a month and they have hosted a team meeting and reviewed our handover system for improved team communication

We have a small number of vacancies at Chapel House as we have not allowed any moves to our home during the lift refurbishment and redecoration. However we are now accepting admissions and need you to help us by spreading the word as after 29 years people still don’t know we are here!!

Monday 6th of June Gardening group—Keith, Mike & Norah  (Meets First Monday  7pm to 8pm every month to plan and prepare activities) .

Dementia café  TBC once our café is up and running!!

Tuesday 14th of June Choir - Laurence, Kim, Cathrina (other volunteers to be confirmed ) 6:30 to 7pm (meets the second Tuesday of each moth thereafter) .

Monday 27th June— Start of Wimbledon, Strawberries and Cream Tea 
Sunday 10 July- Sporting memories—Sports day Euro 16 final and men's singles at Wimbledon  Themed Ageless Grace wear your sportswear.  We will be making banners from old sporting stars pictures and watching events live.
Wednesday 20th July– All aboard Musical
Friday 5th of August Olympics 2016 opening ceremony foods of the world tea.
Sunday 4th September (weather permitting) 1:30 to 4pm  “Teddy Bears Picnic “ bring you picnic and teddy for another family fun day
This We provided all the household members with selfie kits –pictures have been displayed in the homes.

On Tuesday 17th of May—1123 (Hooton Park) Squadron, all became
Dementia Friends with the help of Ola GIFT Co-ordinator and Cathrina. This was a lovely evening and the Cadets want to come and visit us soon...
On Thursday the 19th of May Cathrina attended the Bebington Carers Group
Friday 20th May  Dementia– Do
Kim & Cathrina attended the Dementia-Do Event at Chester Town Hall this was organised by fellow Dementia Specialist Nurse Andy Tysoe and Julie Sheen a carer , there were 90 attendees and we got the opportunity to talk to many of them about our homes and Admiral Nursing.  Guest speakers included Chris Roberts and Tommy Dunne the real experts in life with dementia… this was an enlightening insight as to the impact of dementia on them and their families
Chapel House Dementia Awareness & Family Fun Day Saturday 21st May 2016
This was a well attended event we were so pleased everyone came (despite the threat  of rain) the down pours stopped and the sun shone a little. This event was an open house for the local community there was an open invitation to our lovely  homes and too ensure everyone in our village and wider community had a chance to meet up in a very sociable environment.  We raised £400 for Dementia UK and launched our Compassionate Friends Groups .
