Hello campaigners,

It's been an eventful past month - both here in Scotland with the election and for debt justice campaigners across Europe, as developments in Greece hit headlines once again. So here are some quick updates along with the details of our upcoming Annual General Meeting - we hope to see you there!

All Welcome at AGM 2016!

Jubilee Scotland's Annual General Meeting is almost upon us, and we'd like to take this opportunity to invite you to come along on the day and make your voice heard.

The AGM is open to everyone and offers the chance to get more involved in the activities of Jubilee Scotland, and to help shape our campaigns moving forward.

We also invite our member organisations to put forward a representative to stand for election to our Board of Directors. So if you work with one of our members and would be keen to take a leading role, this could be you!

Join us on Tuesday 21 June from 6:30pm in the Studio of Augustine United Church in central Edinburgh.

#CancelGreekDebt

In the lead up to the 24 May Eurogroup meeting on debt relief for Greece, Jubilee Scotland joined with thousands of other online voices as part of a 'twitterstorm' to get the issue trending and  to bombard the group's president with calls for cancellation, pointing to the many reasons why this is absolutely vital for a real recovery.

Sadly, in spite of the IMF's own insistence that Greece's debt is simply unpayable if there is not significant relief, it now seems prepared to take part in yet another bailout deal.  In the words of our partners at JDC, quoted here by the BBC, this represents a "major climbdown, which once again breaks the IMF's own rules not to lend when they know a debt cannot be paid".

We will continue to stand with the people of Greece in their struggle against the imposition of further destructive austerity measures, as the can is kicked further down once more.

PFI/PPPs

In our last e-news update, we told you about our latest campaign seeking to Open the Books on PFI, a major source of debt injustice here in Scotland. Thank you to everyone who signed the petition so far - now let's push for 2,000 signatures!

SIGN THE PETITION
Africa

In spite of the woeful track record of the secretive PPP deals here in the UK and elsewhere, this sort of contract is now being pushed as a model to be replicated across the Global South, as in the case of the education system in Liberia. Find out more here.

This surely cannot be the answer for African countries already on the brink of a new debt crisis.
