Dear Parents
We have sped to the end of half term and I think that the children, and staff, are all ready for a short break to re-charge the batteries before the last busy six weeks of the academic year.
Our chess players all enjoyed a successful weekend at Camber Sands last weekend. They came a very impressive 4th thanks to some great play from the team. My thanks to Mr Sonley for his coaching of the team and for entering us for this event. Hopefully the lure of a weekend in Camber Sands will encourage more players to join the chess club.
Mrs La Farge, Head Teacher

Mrs Barnetson-Mott's EYU cookery fun has begun! Some of the children sampled some dark chocolate, watched it melt, mixed it with cream cheese and poured it over a biscuit base to create yummy chocolate cheesecakes! |

Year 1 have a great time directing their iPads in Maths! |
|
Year 1 have had a lovely end to the half term this week. They begun the week writing thank you letters to Mr Dyson in their English lessons. The children all loved our trip last week and wanted to let Mr Dyson know how much fun they had there! The children wrote about the milking parlour, the pond dipping and the famous snail race! |

Year 3 make fabulous Medusa masks |
|
We have had a very busy week with assessments and mentoring being done. Every child has sat down with their teachers and discussed their achievements, targets and things that they have found challenging during the term. Despite the events of last Thursday and our aborted trip, many children mentioned how much fun they had in London. |

This term we have been creating wonderful art work linked to our Viking topic. We all enjoyed designing and making beautiful gold amulets using a mixture of materials including card, foil, paint, sting and beads. These are now proudly displayed in the Year 4 classrooms.

Year 5 enjoy solving a murder mystery in Maths |

As this is mentoring week Year 5 have used the assessments that they did last week to set their own maths targets for the rest of the term. For many, fractions continue to be challenging and the children have been reassured that we will return to them before the end of term. |

English Primary Schools Chess Association competition, Camber Sands - 21/22 May |
|
|
|
Gateway were once again in the English Primary Schools Chess Association competition at Camber Sands. We went into the Plate competition missing two Bucks U11 players, so not at 100 per cent, but still a strong squad to pose a threat to any of our rivals. There were 20 teams in total and we played the usual Swiss system, whereby you play a team of similar points and standard every round. Read more.
